Official FALL 2012 Cornell Transfers

@jadey24, a GT is not for Community Colleges… GTs are offered when you apply for freshman admissions, and as long as you complete pre-reqs and maintain a certain GPA (different for all schools at Cornell), you fill out a TO (Transfer Option) application… so you essentially are a GT if you were told you will be accepted as long as you meet the guidlines given to you. I’m a GT too!

Hey Guys! Think I’ve got a shot?
I applied to CAS for Linguistics.

HS GPA 2.53
SAT 1730
CC GPA 3.917 (After MT Report 3.93)
Credits 30 (19 in progress) at the end of the semester, I’ll have 49
ECs: 6 years of work experience, since 16
ACLU volunteer
Anthropology club
essays: I think were pretty good, wrote about my need for more stimulating/challenging curriculum, as well as lessons I’ve learned during my 4 year gap between HS and college.

Hooks: African American
First in family to attend college

Anybody else going for linguistics? It’s not very often I find one.

@anothershot11 I know!!! I thought we might hear back next week :frowning:
Maybe they’ll surprise us.

@jadey24 if you don’t mind me asking how many pre reqs did you not finish? I am applying to CALS and I am nervous because i did not complete 2 of the pre reqs

I don’t remember the last time that time moved this slowly…

@Jimbo, I just found myself looking for a “like” button after reading your post.

I feel like it’s been the end of March for like a month at this point. I just want to go to sleep and wake up in that vague period of time in transfer admissions known as “mid-April”

hahaha, I could not have said it any better.

haha thats really funny! i feel weird about this whole process. I think about transferring everyday, as in the last thing before i fall asleep and the first thing when i wake up. but I’m not freaking out/extremely nervous. i think the intense emotions will come when judging the size of the envelope in the mail, whether its big enough…

You know, I’ve heard that the envelopes can be very deceiving. As for thinking about transferring… I’ll admit that I’ve had more than one dream about transferring to CU. I’ve been working on this application since November. Honestly, it has been like taking an extra ten credits! The stress…the pressure… the undeniable desire to just GET IN! Sometimes I ask myself if I’m really ready for this all to be over. The answer is, of course, “yes,” but it’s somewhat surreal… the idea that I will have no interest in checking this discussion board in a matter of weeks. sheesh.

hah the dream is that in a few weeks, this conversation has carried over to Facebook where we’ll hopefully be making moving plans and thinking about classes

Oh man, that would be awesome. Fingers crossed!

Hope we can all chill next August…

@Houston818 I’m applying for linguistics! You’re the only other person I’ve come across who is! I’m really interested in linguistics with a heavy focus in Slavic languages/literatures. What about you? You think we’ll have an improved chance of getting in since there aren’t very many people who major in linguistics? (even people who are already at Cornell- looked up stats that say out of roughly 13,000 there are 28 or so ling majors)

Honestly… we better all be grabbing coffee and hanging out together in Ithaca come August.

@alyssa921714 I sure hope that is the case, lol. There normally isn’t much information on linguistics, chances, or which types they generally accept. I intend to focus on German and Germanic languages. Where else have you applied? I’ve applied to UPenn, NYU, and UMass Amherst.

@houston818 I know- it’s definitely lacking in info, and not just on Cornell’s web page. Guess we’ll see soon enough. I also applied to UPenn, along with Brown, Colgate, Dartmouth, Georgetown, Harvard, and Swarthmore, but Cornell is actually my top choice. What’s yours? I may die of anticipation before we even get letters.

@alyssa921714 Seriously, the search for information about linguistics, further than that about what is offered and the class required, has been a difficult one. There is a limited number of details out there about the reputation of the program at any institution. Cornell is my number one choice, followed by UPenn. Honestly, I’m not sure about how great of a chance I have at getting into either one, so I also have high hopes for NYU.

@visions,
I didn’t have 3 pre-reqs: stats, bio II and chem/physics I. They also made a mistake and at first didn’t count my AP credit toward one english requirement so idk if that was factored against me as well?

Cornell just posted on their Facebook page that freshman decisions came out today…wish that was us!
