definitely. I think the things that can make or break your application are your personal statement and essay. Cornell exempts people from sending in your toefl if you have taken the sat and scored higher than 670 on reading. If you could, I would consider retaking your toefl.

hi, when are you suppose to fill in your midterm report by?

Hi mn62980, I’m just a little bit confused about how Cornell want my letter of recs to be mailed? Should I ask them to mail directly to Cornell or I can just get the seal envelope and send it all together at once?

Thanks

Hi

Does it make any difference when you have 3.7 GPA at Top public universities and when you have 3.9 GPA at CC or state schools?
I have 3.68 GPA right now at one of Top 3 public schools and will have 4.0 GPA (winter quarter)by March. Would my gpa hurt my chance assuming I have strong rec, EC, and essay?

@collegedyp

UCLA?

@Tovani, I think you can do it both ways. For me I sent out 2 letters on my own, and one was mailed out by one of my writers. As long as you give them the proper directions and mailing addresses, it should be fine (also be sure to have signed the instructor evaluation form, as there is a section for that.)

@Asganga, I think your college GPA is strong, and your extracurriculars pertaining to communications are amazing, so capitalize on that and write amazing essays. Your SAT is weak, so depending on what school in Cornell you apply to, it may be best not to send it in (some schools don’t require it). I think your chances will be stronger for CALS if you complete all their requirements, since you don’t need SATs.

you were in HKU before? that’s impressive!!! I think we have a lot in common though. I was not in a Chinese University as prestigious as HKU but my college gpa at that school did weigh me down in my last-year application.

@danielle1991
Are you replying to me??
I am from Hong Kong Baptist University in Hong Kong before, which is a VERY BAD UNIVERSITY. But my major ranks good in Hong Kong though. DO you think I have a chance=(

@spacecommander
The toefl deadline has passed. =( As for the midterm report, to my best understanding, u should send as soon as your mid term result is released and you need your college instructor to send the report to them directly.

My stats -Coming from UT Dallas and majoring in biochemistry.

Extracurriculars:
I have a lot of extracurriculars but my biggest ones are research in labs. I did research at UNMC over the summer, and am currently doing research at UT Dallas.
Essays:
I think they’re pretty well done. I had them checked by multiple people as well as my university’s writing center and my academic advisor who is an English major.

@wongshei Which college are you applying to?

Hey guys. Have you all checked app status and checked if the college transcript, college official form, and recommendation have been received? I sent mine on January 30th and it said it hasn’t been received.

I sent in most of my stuff in January as well, some stuff was received earlier (even though it was submitted later) than others. I sent my HS transcript mid January and it still hasn’t been marked off. But everything else has been marked off for me. I will probably email them next week.

Actually, I just called undergraduate admissions now, and navigated through to talk to a transfer app specialist, and I was then transferred to processing.

The lady was very nice and looked through my materials and told me all the materials I had and resolved the issue with my H.S. transcript. So all my materials are now there, aside from mid term report.

Phew.

@SMRSMR Thank you for your answer. I have another question which sounds a little bit silly but what kinds of envelope that you used for your letter of recommendation and college report? I gave my counselor all the materials today with a regular white envelope. Haha. I just realized that I should have gave him a big-fat-yellow one.

I haven’t submit my application yet. Lol. Probably this Friday. Hah

Uhmmm, I think the envelope and stamp amount it depends on weight right?

As long as the papers fit inside, I think you should be fine. It just needs to get there somehow!

I am submitting my application now, I know I’m an underdog but is it worth applying?

applying to transfer as a junior, science major/pre-med from mediocre small school in boston
college GPA 3.77 (2 Bs first semester in art classes (I was originally graphic design), straight As since in all sciences and gen eds)
HS GPA 3.33, didn’t apply myself at all
SAT 1830, terrible I know
ECs: intern in research lab at beth israel, work at harvard med, member of a few clubs and have some volunteer work at food banks, etc

i’m making it a point in my essay how much I’ve changed since HS, hopefully an admissions member sees that, and with the upward trend in my grades i have somewhat of a chance.

in your guys opinions, is it worth applying or am i wasting 70 dollars?

SMRSMR, Yes. But with the regular white envelope, all the paper and has to be folded >.<

I’m just wondering if applications are reviewed for admission on a rolling basis? I will submit mine on Friday. One more thing, some of my classes haven’t had mid-term scores yet. Can I send the mid-term report after deadline?

SPSmyth, I think you should give Cornell a shot. your work at Harvard Med looks really good. I haven’t finished my application yet. I will post my stats once I’m done :D

I feel like such a dumb*ss right now…
Is the application portion of the common app same for EVERY school I apply to?

@JPSmyth, your stats look good. You should try to apply. What major/college at Cornell are you applying to?

@Spacecommander, I don’t quite understand what you’re saying. The common application goes to all schools you add to it. You can make multiple versions and send those versions to specific schools. But in essence, the application information and main essay/activities will go to all the schools.

Hi, I am applying to some universities for transfer.
Some of materials such as Teacher Evaluation and Secondary school report and SAT scores are already sent to Cornell.
I just have not filled out common application, supplementary application and paid the application fee.

If I decide not to apply after some materials are already sent, what is the best thing to do?
Should I write a email to admissions office? Do I have to tell the reason?

Also, just a worry is do admissions offices from different colleges communicate with each others so that officers from other colleges I am applying to may be aware that I withdrew my application from other colleges?
