Official FALL 2013 Cornell Transfers Thread

Just don’t submit your application to Cornell, and they will disregard your materials; you don’t have to write to them. Also I doubt admissions officers are communicating with each other at different schools. You’re being so paranoid for no reason.

anyone else finding the financial aid documentation they require to be more overwhelming than the application process?

@yolocholo, I hear you. The fin aid stuff is pretty overwhelming.

@asganga, it is in your best interest to have all those requirements completed to make yourself the strongest applicant. Definitely talk to CALS admissions about this and let them know you plan on taking them in the summer.

Alright thanks. Another question: By when do I need to send in my college transcript?

All materials need to be post marked/ordered before the March 1st deadline.

from a top University of California school

My Stats
College/ Major Applying to: Mechanical Engineering
Entering as: Junior
HS GPA: 3.9/4.0
College GPA: 3.85/4.0 with fairly rigorous course load. all the prereqs covered.
SAT: 2320
SAT II: Physics-760, Math II-800
Extracurricular: Pretty basic, nothing spectacular. I would say average overall.
Letters of Recommendation: 1 from engineering professor, 1 from English professor. Probably average here as well :/

Hoping, at this point D:

question, I am pre-med, either bio or chem or biochem, still undecided. what major do you think I should apply as and at what school? I really have no preference to bio or chem, I just want to up my chances. CALS or just CAS?

I posted my stats on the last page if that matters

@dylonn, your numbers are awesome, you have a strong chance if your transfer reasons/essays are good.

@JPSmyth, I think CALS is slightly easier to get into than CAS, but biological sciences is a competitive major in both schools. Also if you apply to CALS, make sure to complete their requirements.

My stats -Coming from UT Dallas and majoring in biochemistry.
College/ Major Applying to: College of Arts and Sciences and probably majoring in Chemical Biology
Entering as a Sophomore
HS GPA: 3.8
College GPA: 3.86/4.0/ will most likely jump to 3.94 by the end of the Spring semester
ACT: 32/English: 33 Math: 32 Writing: 12
Units completed: 15
Units in progress (Spring 2013 courses) : 18/ so by the end of the year 33 total credits
Extracurriculars:
I have a lot of extracurriculars but my biggest ones are research in labs. I did research at UNMC over the summer, and am currently doing research at UT Dallas.
Essays:
I think they’re pretty well done. I had them checked by multiple people as well as my university’s writing center and my academic advisor who is an English major.

I just got off the phone with a materials processing rep, and she said that complete files (with all materials received) will be sent to admissions committee around mid-march. Midterm report is not necessary at this time, so just send it as soon as grades are available.

So I just sent my common app in, anyone know how long it will take before I should get an email about my online application account? Thanks.

thanks for the update SMRSMR - so I don’t have time to dig right now but what’s the earliest we can expect a decision by based on last years thread? I’m planning on having everything remaining mailed on Monday including midterm grades.

@bathtubgin, I got my ID a few days after submitting.

@yolocholo, I think decisions start going out beginning of April. Last year’s thread had some decisions in the first week of April.

For our Midterm Report, do we wait until after our Midterm exam grades are complete for this grade, or is it usually before that?

My school says that midterm grades aren’t due until April 12th, but since midterms are the week of March 11th, I could probably get the form filled out then, right?

My Stats (Current school is NYU):
College/ Major Applying to: CALS, Communications
Entering as: Sophomore
HS GPA: 3.8/4.0
College GPA: Only been here for one semester, and it wasn’t great for many reasons… 3.04 (I talk about this in the essays)
SAT: 2030
Units completed: 16
Units in progress (Spring 2013 courses) : 16
Extracurriculars: Internship at a popular magazine in Westchester County NY, Shadowed a head CBS Sports producer at a couple NFL games, travelled extensively with groups, personal photography business, and more.
Letters of Recommendation: 1 from college professor, 1 from PI, 1 from H.S. guidance counselor (all seemed great)
Hooks: Triple legacy, NY resident (and applying to CALS which is one of the state schools)

Other:
Other schools applied to: Hamilton, Bates, Connecticut College
Comments: I think my essays were really strong. They were very personal and talked about my passion for sports and how I want to apply that to communications. They also talk a lot about why the environment at Cornell is much more suited to me than where I am now.

@nyjetsknicks, You can send in midterm reports by the time you get your first exam grades (or have at least somewhat significants grades out), don’t wait until April. Send it asap.

@SMRSMR Okay I don’t think my exams grades will be up until after break which would be the week of March 25th. So would I be better off having my professors fill out the form for my grades of everything before the exam? I could get those in about 2 weeks…

bump please

@Bathtubgin, March 25 seems kind of late, definitely email admissions about this and ask them directly.

@ Lelouch, what exactly is your question/reason for bumping?

My Stats (Coming from USC):
College/ Major Applying to: AEM under bio sci school
Entering as: Junior
HS GPA: 3.94/4.0 unweighted
College GPA: 3.91/4.0
SAT: Didn’t submitted them, they weren’t that great
United Completed:54 including AP:78
Units in progress (Spring 2013 courses) : 20
Extracurriculars: Pretty good, leadership position in 3 top business clubs and in undergraduate goernment. 2 internships in the past and 1 in fourtunate 500 this summer
Letters of Recommendation: 2 from college professors, should both be tailored for Cornell

Questions: What should I mainly focus on on my app? Intelligence, research? professionalism?
And should I put the internship that hasn’t happened yet on my app?

Also, could someone please chance me and tell me what I could improve on?
