Official FALL 2013 Cornell Transfers Thread

Actually forget my above comment, Fall 2013 transfers need 2012 tax returns.

Argh, mine will be pretty late, I hope that doesn’t ruin my aid if I get accepted. I will call them on monday to ask.

hey smrsmr (or anyone else), once my dad does his taxes, they usually give him a folder with all the paperwork inside. am I allowed to just scan and make copies of those tax return papers or am i suppose to get real ones mailed in by irs. gov?

@ Heartybowl: I just made copies of the signed forms and sent them.

If you read the financial aid site, they actually encourage online submission. You can submit all the documents electronically on the official website. So as long as they are signed and scanned, you’re good to go.

@Asganga, this website has all the requirements. [Fall Transfer Applicants 2013-14 | Financial Aid](http://www.finaid.cornell.edu/apply-aid/prospective-applicants/fall-transfer-applicants)

I’ve decided to make a list to keep track of those who are applying this year (this helps others to get statistical data). We can update it as time goes along with rejections and acceptances.

If someone is applying from the same school i go to (with better stats) but to arts and science, not ilr, does that still decrease my chances or would they not even know as they are two different schools?

Forgot to mention, I already applied and, since its rolling admission, I’m in line before him. I should be okay, right?

@Neja, you will not be competing with that person since you applied to different schools. And you are not in front or behind him since you applied to different schools. The “rolling admissions” is based on results, so the results are rolling. However I think it is in your benefit to submit as early as possible.

I trust your judgement but, what I heard was that the primary admissions committee reviews the application first and, if they think the application is good enough for cornell, they send it to the school the applicant is applying to.

Is that actually the case? I was always under the impression that it was on a school to school basis. That’s why they broke down the statistics as well.

Either way I think submitting early is better.

And, since it’s rolling, do they not begin looking at applications in the order they receive them?

I would think so, but I talked to a rep on the phone and she said complete applications are sent around mid march…so I guess a first batch goes out (those that were already complete by mid march)…and then as applications are complete they are forwarded too.

Are all the materials except for midterm report supposed to be marked in our app status??? I sent the instructor form and college report about half month ago but my status still said they are missing. I know they are crazy busing matching our files but since the deadline is approaching, should I call the office to make sure they receive my envelope??? I’m so worried…

@Danielle, if you send it half a month ago it is probably still in processing. I sent my materials in mid to late January and they were all checked off last week. But just to be safe, call the office tomorrow and ask to be transferred to processing, they’ll let you know. As far as I know, they aren’t extremely stringent on it as long as you had it post marked before the deadline, and if anything is missing they will inform you asap.

@SMRSMR, what is rolling admissions? I thought they send the results earlier to those who submitted earlier. Also, will it be a problem if my professor send the letter of rec after March 1st? so like, can he send the form during the 2nd week of March via Air mail?

The size limit for online submission is 2MB per file. My parent’s 1040 pdf is like 7MB already. I think I will have to split it into smaller files.

I haven’t sent my Common App yet and I’m planning on doing that tomorrow. I did however send everything else (recs, transcripts, college report, etc). Will this affect my chances, or will Cornell still compile all of my documents and eventually send me information about my application status?

@Collegedyp, I am not entirely sure about Cornell’s rolling policy. I think Cornell just announces results on a rolling basis, starting in April. Also you should have your materials post marked before March 1st, otherwise they may not take them.

@lilpsyco, you should be fine as long as you sent in your materials before March 1st and submit your app on time. It will take some time for the status of the materials to change on your online page (around 2 weeks), but you should be ok. And if you’re missing something Cornell will contact you, or you can call and ask them.

To the rolling admission question. I was an application for the spring semester, I sent my completed paperwork 3days after the deadline and I was one of the first people notified of acceptance.

I don’t think the make decision on a first come base.
