@SMRSMR, I called the school anonymously and you were right, they said your application goes straight to the school you’ve applied to and you only compete with those applying to the same school.

Are you competing more-so with those applying to the same major as you, as in for example there may be 10 spots for a certain major. Or would it be more like 100 spots open at whatever school you’re applying to, and the best qualified will get in regardless of the makeup of their majors?

@tblanc, I think it is a bit of both. But I know for CALS you are admitted to a specific major, so I am sure you have to compete against others of the same major. However overall you have to be up to par to be considered as a contender for that major too.

I don’t know if CAS is that way (I doubt it).

I called Cornell two months ago ask about the whole rolling admission thing. I asked because I knew that I would find out two weeks later if I was elected as student body president. The woman in admissions told me that it did not matter AT ALL when I applied because the “rolling” thing applied to when you hear back (based on the school you are applying to). I waited, found out I won, and submitted my application yesterday.

How strict are they in course requirements? I just realized that I didn’t take about half the courses the College of Engineering is asking for. Should I stop applying?

@SMRSMR, thanks for your tip, I called the office at noon and they are really helpful. Unfortunately the rep said she hadn’t found my big envelope yet; the weird part is I sent this one on Feb15th and they didn’t find it yet but the other envelope I sent on 20th was received by them. They said I should call next week to re-check but I got really anxious about it. the only official transcript from my university in China is in that envelope so if it’s lost there’s no way I can get another one.

@blackmang, you should email admissions at CoE and ask…but really I think you’ve put yourself at a disadvantage by not taking the required courses. Nevertheless, contact Cornell.

@Danielle, they probably still have it somewhere in processing. You should have made copies of the transcript though.

I’ve got in almost all of my app materials, just need to send in the midterm report and I’m golden (provided my professor and the official send their forms off in time.)

I’m coming from Bossier Parish Community College in Bossier City, LA. My high school GPA was a 4.0 and my college GPA is currently a 4.0 with 53 hours and another 20 this semester…By the time I’m done I’ll have all the pre-reqs for the MCAT done. What I’m worried about is that I don’t have a TON of EC’s. I have a few, mission trips with my church and a couple others, but since I was homeschooled and then when right to CC I never really got super active socially. I spent a year in the recruiting office, though. Hopefully that looks pretty good to them. Good luck to everyone else, especially my competitors in the CAS!

Also, I am trying to get housing that is in a more quiet area so that I can study. I don’t party or drink or anything. If anyone who doesn’t goof around like that wants to share a dorm or an apartment, let me know so we can talk a bit.

Haha thanks yolocholo. I really just can’t wait until April so I can know my decision and move on with life! Right now its hard to even focus on school work.

On another note, I know mid term reports matter, but does anyone know how much weight they are assigned? I would think they aren’t regarded as a final transcript…but I wonder how they assess them.

One of my friends transferred to Cornell last year. He said the admission office called him to take a screenshot of the transcript showing Spring semester grades then emailed to them.

Lol. But were those mid term grades or AFTER he had been accepted?

I am guessing it does matter quire a bit to have strong mid term grades, to show you’re not drifting. Now I am just hoping my exam went well for one of my classes since that is the only basis for a grade.

@SMRSMR Yes I know but they won’t accept the copied version of my transcript from China. Anyway, if any of my material is missing the office will send me an email about it, right???
