Official FALL 2013 Cornell Transfers Thread

@SMRSMR Their website says " Letters of recommendation and teacher evaluations will not appear when you check your application status and we do not track the names of the individuals who submit evaluations for applicants." Does that mean the instructor form will never be marked in our status???

@Danielle, where on the website does it say that?

My instructor evaluation form has been marked off. I think they mean they won’t track specific names, so its up to you to make sure that the instructor evaluations they have are from all of the specific people you asked. Since as soon as they receive 1, they will mark it off, so if you send multiple recs, one may not have been received but your status is still marked off (since they received the first one).

And yeah they contact you about missing material eventually.

@SMRSMR [Check the Status of Your Application | Undergraduate Admissions Office](http://blogs.cornell.edu/admissions/2011/10/26/check-the-status-of-your-application/)

@Danielle, my instructor evaluation is marked off, so I don’t know what that means.

Also this quote is very important for anyone who wonders!

“Rest assured, if anything is missing from your application we will notify you, typically by email, and you will be given a chance to submit what is needed so your application can be reviewed. However, chances are, if you check your application status online, you will be able to complete your application easily.”

I sent my college transcript, official form, and instructor evaluation on Janurary 30th and they still haven’t receive it yet… I was trying to re send it today, but the admission rep said to wait until they send out the offical letter that they are missing the materials…

Also, I’m going to send my mid year report and I’m kind of concerned right now. I’m taking 5 classes got 3 A’s 1 B and 1 C. The course that I got a “C” is a recommended course, so I’m very anxious that it will destory my chance for getting in. But the professor made a comment that some grades will be dropped.

@Jk1018, I’m sorry about the C, hopefully the comment helps. Just submit and hope for the best. OR wait for another grade that ups your average and then get the professor to sign again…you’ll just submit it a little late though (which is acceptable for midterm report I think).

So do you think it wil be a huge demage on the admission? I actually just sent the letter because there aren’t major quizes and project until late March that will bring up grade up. Should I ask Cals If it will affect a lot on the admission?
Actually, there is a reason why I have a “C” right now. The course I’m currently taking is online, and the quizes and tests are constructed online also. I was taking the test and it was time limited. I was finishing up fast because the time was running out. The system would normally automatically grade the exam after the time exceeded, but it kept let me work on it. So I thought the professor changed the testing system, so I took as much as time. After I submitted I got an “F”, which I was shocked… The professor didn’t tell any information about the result for submitting it late, so I thought it was Okay. If the system automatically graded it, I would have gotten at least 75%. I talked to my professor about this and said that will be the I will get…
If I explain this to the admission committee, do think it would help?

Honestly that’s up to you, a C will not look good no matter what. You can try to explain, and hope that it doesn’t come off as an excuse. Your call, as I am not too experienced with this. You can explain in an update letter that you feel it is not an accurate representation of your grade.

Does anybody on here happen to know if there is any leniency regarding required courses? I have 6 of the 7 courses done but unfortunately wont be able to take the last one. Should I just not submit my app?

It depends on what school you applied to I think. Obviously you want to be the strongest applicant you can be and taking the required and recommended courses is a part of that.

I know CALS is fairly strict, but does make some exceptions or let you make up the courses during the summer.

Contact Cornell directly and ask.

Thats definitely the plan … I’m applying to CALS for Communications. Thank you!

@Jk1018 So you called them and they said they didn’t receive it yet? Ok…I hope they are just too busy sorting out mails from applicants.

Yup, just send everything app-related to admissions and everything finaid related to finaid and you’ll be good to go!

OK, so I haven’t been on here recently (prelims) and a lot of folks have been PMing me with questions.I keep answering them, but I’m not sure if they’ve been getting sent since I haven’t posted 15 times yet…sooooooo

Here’s what I’m going to do…just a quick refresher: My name is Mike, and I transfered to Cornell last Fall…

I’m a Communications major in CALS. CU accepted 57 of my 63 transfer credits (I was a nursing major for a hot minute), and I went through the ‘independent student’ process for fin aid (agreed, nightmare).

If they still have a preference list for housing, I’d STRONGLY recommend anything on West Campus (Cook, Rose, Becker, Boldt, Keeton) for transfers. North Campus is nothing but freshman…not that there’s anything wrong with that  Scheyler (sp?) is out the outskirts, Cascadilla is in need of renovations, and Sheldon…well, Sheldon might actually be cool. But no dining hall.

Essentially, what I’m trying to do here is get up to my 15 posts (if you hadn;t figured that out) so I can reply to these here PMs. Umm, lets see what else…IT’S COLD. Dress accordingly.

One of the best things to do prior to coming here is checking out your particular department’s webpage. Look at the research that is going on (if you didn’t already do so for your “Why Cornell” essay…which you really should do) and figure out which professor you want to stalk when you get here for a research assistant position. I got one in my first few weeks here.
