if uw-seattle accepts a person to pre-engineering and no direct admission is offered. How difficult is it to get into the required major?

If the Unofficial transcript says “Pre Science” is it strong indication that my daughter didn’t get DA into Computer Science?

@SD2018Dad not at all! Nobody gets their DA major shown on the unofficial transcript this early in march. Give it a few weeks, maybe early-to-mid April. As of now we (CS applicants) are all pre-science or pre-engineering. In the next 10 days or so, we will have our applications looked at by the CS department for them to choose. If admitted (I really hope we are!!!) then we will be notified by email and possibly in our welcome packets. What classes did she take in HS (related to CS? Like math/physics/chem/programming)

@dishkyaoon it depends on the major itself. After you fulfill the required pre-requisite classes (shown here, for each major, http://admit.washington.edu/Admission/Transfer/APW) then you will be eligible to apply for your major.

Here is a link to the statistic for engineering majors and their accepted/rejected students and their stats in recent years. http://data.engr.washington.edu/pls/portal30/STUDENT_APPL.RPT_APPLICANT_STATISTICS_YEAR.SHOW_PARMS

But in general, maintain a 3.5 pre-req gpa and above and you should have a good chance. You have to write a good essay too though! People with 2.9s get in with good essays while people with 4.0s will get rejected with bad essays. You need to have a story and passion behind what you tell them.

@SD2018Dad the gold envelope is only for Seattle Campus. Bothell and Tacoma are easier to get into and pretty much like community colleges. Seattle is the best and hardest to get into, and really the only one people know or “care” about.

@SD2018Dad Current CSE student (direct admit) here. I’m going to just jump in and confirm what @NinRash said above.

You’ll be notified by email for sure if your daughter is a direct admit. Welcome packets have “computer science” or “computer engineering” in some direct admit packets, but not all. These will come out later. Nobody knows who got direct admit just yet.

Let me know if you have any other questions. =)

@speedsolver How long did it take for your email to come?

@lyndak: First week of April. This was back in 2010. The direct admit open house date is sometime in mid-April.

Thanks for the confirmation… we continue to hope for DA then. That’s good news.
My daughter is an international student. My daughter took Computer Science in her 12th Grade. I was looking at the pre-requisite for CSE, I feel that my daughter has met the pre-requisite like Math-calculus, Physics, Computer Science , etc in her 12th grade. So, I am hoping for the best.

@NinRash Thank you for links and info…

@NinRash can you tell what happens if a pre-engineering student is not offered admission by the department. His time and money spent on satisfying pre-req wasted ???

other’s are also requested to present their comments

@SpeedSolver , @NinRash: Thanks a ton for your speedy responses.

@rusty34 I am from India too in I emailed UW (engineering) they said that they don’t give direct admission to a major to international students… So if I get in I will be pre-engineering can’t go straight to MY major CE …direct admissions are for US students…u will be pre-Eco or something like thay

@Rusty34 @Christophernolan update me on uw decision when you get it.

I will be applying for fall 2015 sorry @rusty34 can update u
Btw what are your stats?

@rusty34 Neuroscience

@christophernolan @dishkyaoon alright guys I’ll do that. For now I just hope I get accepted first.

my son accepted university of Washington just couple of hours before. he received letter… So So happy…happy…++++++++++++
Now accepted Univs are altogether 3 : Cal Poly SLO, UCR, University of Washington.

I’m quite anxious about my status, since there are some international students here, anyone received an email with the final decision?
