**Official Fall 2014 Duke Transfer Thread**

Good luck on May 8th everybody!

Yep, just got an email from Duke saying that decisions for transfer applicants will be available at 10AM on Thursday, May 8th. Decisions will be released through the applicant portal.

Just out of curiosity, when you guys are on your Duke SISS account, click on worklist in the top-right hand corner of the screen, and then “Detailed View” on the next page, what happens?

@WordUpHomie0101 When I click on Worklist, I see that I am given a 7-digit ID number, followed by my name. There are no items in the list, however, and when I click on “Detail View” I get the message “You are not authorized for this page.” Did you get something different?

@KingofSweden‌ @WordUpHomie0101‌ I have the same thing happen! “You are not authorized”

Lol ok ya I have the same thing too. Probably doesn’t mean anything, unless other people don’t have it

What’re you guys applying for to Duke? I applied for PPE

Econ haha I’m screwed

I applied to public policy as my first choice! Not expecting much. But, the Sanford school is awesome and I would love to go to Duke.

Just out of curiosity what did you guys write about in your essays?

I interned in the Senate for almost 4 months after my freshman year (so, summer before this year) and it changed basically my whole perspective- created a passion for public service, motivated me to choose to try to transfer, etc. So I wrote about that in my extracurricular essay. Why Duke was about an interdisciplinary education from PubPol, and the reading one was about a journal article I read on the Arab-Israeli conflict and how it changed my perspective on conflict and the Middle East.

My Common App essay was mostly about how my current school is too big for me, and various reasons for wanting to leave, and why a smaller (etc, this is majorly glossing over what made up my essay) school is better for me.

What about you?

My common app essay was very similar (I want a smaller, private school and am currently enrolled at a pretty big state school)

My reading one was about a book I read for class about Russo-American diplomacy, and how it changed my perspective on the relationship (U.S. can be overbearing, unfairly expects countries to fall in line with its decisions, etc.). My “Why Duke” was about DukeEngage, and how I want to be a part of one of the microfinance ventures they have in Togo. And finally, my extracurricular essay was basically about my involvement in an investment club at my current university that has helped me shape my career path (which is also kind of similar to your essay).

Hey guys! I’m also a transfer applicant. I’m really sorry about this but I have a very last minute question to ask. What’s you guys’ portals’ home page like?
When I logged in around mid-March I could see my checklist and it said Duke got all my application material. However, my page had turned completely blank since April. I’ve always thought that my laptop probably had some problem and that’s why I couldn’t not see my checklist anymore, but after checking my portal from other laptops I figured out just now that actually my Duke portal’s home page is actually completely blank. My checklist totally disappeared. Also, I did not receive any email regarding the decision releasing date. I am now very worried and confused now. Are any of you guys in the same situation as me? It not, should I just email the admission office?
Thanks in advance! I really hope someone can help me out here!

I mean mine just says “No to-dos” and then the reason you haven’t received your email is probably because its either in spam or you’re not checking the right email? Check “Application Details” and take a look at what email you wrote down.

^thank you so much for replying! I am certain I checked the right email and I checked my spam several times in the past hour and there’s nothing. Actually I don’t even have the “application detail” button anymore. Literally there’s not a single thing I can click on on my application home page. Still thank you so much for your help though! I think I probably have to email the admission office now haha. Good luck on Thursday!

Lol maybe thats a good sign instead? Would you say you’re a very competitive applicant for transfer; I’m sorry if that question is invasive (you obviously don’t have to answer)?

Haha it’s not invasive at all! Honestly, I don’t think I’m competitive at all. My SAT is very average and is on the lower end for Asians. My high school GPA is extremely low. It’s under 3.5. I don’t think any of my extracurricular activities is impressive haha. I’ve seen many of you guys’ stats. It’s seems like there are some highlights in everyone of you guys’ applications. My application is definitely not on the same level as you guys’. I have to admit I did put a lot of work into my essays, but I really don’t think the essays are the deciding factors of the decision making process. I’d be very surprised if I got accepted at all, but since I already put a lot of work into this application, I will stay optimistic and just hope for the best haha!
I am in a top 30 school though, but it seems like a lot of you guys are too, so I don’t think my school will help my application much either. Also I applied last year and got rejected, so I think it’s very likely I get a rejection letter again haha!

@CamelsAreCute, I don’t think they’d just get rid of your application if you didn’t get in. They’re going to tell rejected applicants the same time as accepted. It’s probably a glitch. I would call, not email, admissions. Good luck, and try not to stress too much!

I agree (^^); most likely a glitch. I would definitely take the time to call as well.

@WordUpHomie0101‌ Would you say it’s harder to get in as an Econ major? I’m wondering because I also applied for Econ
