@BCtoSB I never received an email from UCSB. I checked the portal and found out I was admitted. Maybe they will send one to those of us who were admitted when financial aid packages become available.
Rejected this morning.

@Tristana Wow… so sorry to hear that. I know you had good stats and was really rooting for you to get in. But it seems that UCSB has become increasingly strict with the completion of all prerequisites. Don’t lose hope; I’m sure you’ll get into another amazing school!
Hey guys! Accepted this morning!

Goodluck to all of you!
@ARandomPerson1 yeah lol. The botany class killed me.
It didn’t hit me hard though. All good
Just an update, I checked my acceptance for the first time on Tuesday and I got an email congratulating me from UCSB (aside from the lacrosse one) just now! so it seems they’re slowly trickling through.
ACCEPTED!!
Major: Pre biology

IGETC:Yes

Not many Ecs
I’m 2 for 2!
My decision is still pending. Fairly low GPA. Probably not gonna get in.
still pending…
Haha i finally got my acceptance email.
I was curious when I saw right in a row that a 3.67 was rejected from Biology while a 3.3 was accepted. The former was missing botany, the latter missing O Chem.
It’s not a matter of UCSB getting stricter. In assist it clearly says botany is required to be completed. This is where there really is no leeway. I know it’s tough to hear and get rejected, but this is an example where things like “he was right under 3.7 and got rejected”, gets repeated as time goes on and everyone freaks. There usually is a reason somewhere. My condolences @tristana, best of luck on the other applications. I’m rooting for a win!
Just noting it to put it in perspective when ppl start analyzing.
@lindyk8 I actually recalculated 3.41 and I have ochem 1 and 2 with As in both. Genetics A. Only missing physics
@lindyk8 sadly, I was aware when I submitted my application regarding the botany req. It was a good try though. Haha.
I like how UCI, UCLA, and UCR don’t necessarily require botany, yet most of the rest do…
I have every science prereq done but botany.
@lindyk8 someone on here was rejected as a psych major while missing two of the 5 recommended pre reqs with a 3.6 while some were accepted with a gpa much lower but with completed pre reqs. I’m guessing a high gpa < pre reqs?
HI guys, I actually got accepted on Monday but received an e-mail from UCSB this morning.
anyway my stats:
Econ/Accounting
3.52 GPA
IGETC: yes
TAG: Yes
Prereq - done, with Calc in progress right now
@CancelOut a high gpa will not just guarantee you an acceptance to great UC schools. Yes, pre-reqs have a tremendous affect on alot of applicants acceptance rates for tough schools. You see…too many students get caught up on primarily GPA believing that if they have a 4.0, it automatically guarantees them admission to ANY UC school of their choice. What most of these cc counselors do not tell you is that your pre-reqs are a serious factor for your admission in terms of being well prepared to transfer.
For ex: 3 friends i knew at my CC last year all had great high GPAs…one had a 3.7, the other a 3.5, and the last one a 4.0. They all applied to UCLA, Berkeley, as well as many other UCs. The 4.0 friend told me that because he had a 4.0 gpa he was most likely to get into everywhere even without pre-reqs…the second friend that had a 3.7 only completed some of his pre-reqs because his counselors told him he’d be good. Now, the third dude (despite having only a 3.5) totally completed every single pre-req and often spoke with ucla and berkeley admissions reps on the phone…he prepared himself well and did everything needed. But he still never thought he’d make it in because of GPA.
When decision day came, my 4.0 friend was rejected from ucla, berkeley, and ucsb.
my 3.7 friend got rejected from berkeley, ucsb, uci, and ucsd. Got into ucla missing one pre-req though.
But…my 3.5 friend got into Berkeley and UCLA…he was freaking stoked dude…haha.
I thought 4.0 was supposed to get my friend into ucla and berkeley, definitely ucsb too right?
So like i said, it’s great to have a really high gpa, it shows that you are working hard in all of your classes. But you still have to realize that these UCs have rules and expectations beyond gpa. As a matter of fact you don’t be too surprised if the UCs in the future start rejecting any applicant that hasn’t completed their pre-reqs to transfer. What i keep telling other future applicants is to make sure they have a high gpa AND complete all of their pre-reqs before transferring during fall term as it will make them a much more competitive applicant than someone who is missing 1 or 2 pre-reqs.
Hope this helped someone out that may have been rejected with a high GPA.
oh yeah…and TAG also helps xD
I have same major with you ! Also with TAG and calculus 2 in progress . Still pending and no email at all!! I am so anxious right now! do you remember the time you submited the application ?
@kyle2015 wow you dug deep! Thanks for the big FYI. i do know it’s not a guarantee, it’s just that in the past SOME people have gotten by with missing some pre reqs but had a competitive gpa and some applicants got by with a low gpa and missing pre reqs. Either way thank you for your input. Appreciate it
@CancelOut yeah it can definitely vary. As you see from my previous post that my 2 friends despite missing pre-reqs were still accepted to some good schools. But if you want to give yourself the best chance of getting into your dream school or #1 choice…i’d totally find it extremely important to complete every pre-req in your major that that school is asking for, even if they say the pre-req is only “recommended”.
you’re welcome dude i’ll help my fellow applicants as much as i can.
Just got denied. Check this morning around 9am and had no decision, and checked again now and saw the message.
