Official February 2012 ACT Discussion Thread

For me:

English - Easy/Normal
Math - Normal/Hard ( I ended up guessing 2 of the choices)
Reading - Easy
Science - Easy/Normal

BTW:

Where did you guys find the area of the triangle in the first place?
I read that question like 3 times, no luck finding measurements.

PLEASE DIRECT ALL MATH QUESTIONS TO: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/act-preparation/1287931-act-math-section-february-2012-a-11.html

This thread is for general talk… i.e. what you think you got, difficulty of each section, timing, etc.

Oh yeah, I remember one question now, finally.

One the rain passage:

On day 14/15 ( I believe it was the last question)

The size of the particles were restricted because:

I think I put particles below 32/36(the one that said x>32/36) cannnot be in suspension if the water speed is greater than 50mg/L?

What did you guys put?

I said the < 50 mg/L … I’m pretty sure on that one (I looked at the graph) but I was running out of time, so i wouldn’t bet anything on it

Ah, you’re probably right.
I remember on the graph it was exactly at 50.
Sigh, -2 now.

Who else thought the science section was impossible? Maybe my brain just went M.I.A…

The physics: E0 passage had me blank for like 2 minnutes. It took me a while before I actually understood what it was rambling about…

On the English section (about railroads), the question was

__________ to the other.

What was the answer?

I put one rail. I put rails at first, but then I saw to other. I thought it’d better to put one rail since other is singular, but I’m thinking I am wrong. Your answers?

English, Math, Reading- not bad, 30+
Science- 28-30 (maybe lower…)
Didnt understand that last passage very well. Anyone remember what it was?

English, Math, Reading- not bad, 30+
Science- 28-30 (maybe lower…)
Didnt understand that last passage very well. Anyone remember what it was?
Btw if anyone has taken test 4 out of the red book, how similar was it to this test?

I also put 50 mL, but my brain froze during the science section, so… I seriously may have missed as many as 9 questions, so 26??? I think I only got a 30/31 on the whole test.

@ Iris I also put rail.

I am thinking I got:

Math: -2+ (Since I guessed 2. and probably few mistakes)
English: -1+ (I honestly think it wasn’t too bad)
Reading: -1+ (Easiest one in this test)
Science: -2+ (Missed one on rain and that projectile thing, so two at least)

So I think It’ll be like:
Math: x<=34
English: x<=35
Reading: x<=35
Science: x<=34

I think my composite score will be 32 or 33. Sigh.

Did anyone get how to do the last passage in Science? Everything else I thought was pretty standard. It was similar to all the practice tests but Science was just -__-. Hopefully, I didn’t screw up on it too badly.

I’m thinking:
English: 33
Math: 36
Reading: 29
Science: 33
Writing: 10
Composite: 33

What was the last passage? I don’t exactly remember it…
I wish I could get a 36 on the math.
But I’m positive I at least missed one.
The ramp question that was worded confusingly.

Lol I’m thinking more like

Math 33
English 30
Reading 30
Science 27
Essay = 8
so composite = 30.
I’m actually being a bit pessimistic, but expect low and not be dissapointed…

Depending on the curve…:

English: Optimistic - 36, Pessimistic - 34 ugghh (I got 36 on the december one so hopefully it won’t go down that much)
Math: Optimistic - 34/35 (I know I missed two for sure, so it depends on the curve), Pessimistic - 32
Reading: Optimistic - 35, Pessimistic - 32
Science: Optimistic - 36, Pessimistic - 32 (I don’t think I missed anything, but you never know with science. If it’s a really bad curve and I missed two or so, yikesssssss 36 → 32)

Optimistic score: 35.25 -> 35
Pessimistic score: 32.5 -> 33

most likely: 34 (or a high 33)

On the english section, there was one question in the beginning of the railroad passage that I was confused about.

What did you guys put as the answer
It was about railroad companies never expecting railroads to get complicated or something

uh yeah I’m curious to know about this too. Idr the answer choices or what I put though, just that i wasn’t too sure about it

Do you recall the question word by word? I would probably remember my answer if I know the question…
