General opinion earlier was the following: It increases as circuit length increases.

Overall, I’m pretty disappointed. It was my first ACT and I only took two (untimed) practice tests for prep, but I didn’t miss any questions on the second test. I really screwed up on timing and finished math with over 30 minutes left and ran out of time on science. Hopefully my SAT from the 28th will be sufficient.

What do you think the curve will be?

Do you think it’ll be strict on reading and english, but a little generous on science and maybe math?

I really didn’t think any questions were exceedingly challenging so I’m guessing reading and english will be tough/average; math had one hard question (not sure if that changes the curve for the top tier) so probably average; I thought some science questions we’re pretty difficult and it may be an easier curve than normal

What’s the average curve for reading?
It’s like -3 = 33, right?

@Iris

No, look at previous scoring charts (http://www.mindfish.com/cfs-file.ashx/__key/CommunityServer.Blogs.Components.WeblogFiles/bill/ACT-score-chart.png). -3 is typically 34-35.

That. Would. Be. Wonderful.

My projection:
English: 36 (34-35 if i made a “dumb mistake”, which i classify as misreading a question/choice or randomly filling in the wrong bubble)
Math: 36
Reading: 36 (34-35 if dumb mistake)
Science: 35 (really could be anywhere from 34-36)
Writing: 7-8 (i absolutely bombed this, possibly my worst essay since middle school)
Composite: 35-36

To all the people out there who will question my predictions (and im not trying to be cocky), i got a 240 PSAT and 2370 SAT, as well as a 33 ACT freshman year (im a junior now).

Any more questions we should discuss?

My scores so far:

Optimistic view:

Math : -1
English: -0 (there may be silly mistakes)
Reading :-3
Science: -2
Essay: 11~12
Composite: ~35

Composite:
Pessimistic view:

Math : -3
English: -3 (there may be silly mistakes)
Reading :-5
Science: -5
Essay: 10

Composite: 32~33

Quite the gap.

The rails answer was not “one” it was “many.”

@bornagain i am pretty sure it is “one rail to the other”. it just sounds right

The English, Reading, and Writing part was easy. Math was ok (not my strongest subject), the Science wouldn’t be too bad if there was more time, the part that I got to was managable. I’ll be taking the ACT over again, probably.

damndamndamn. I only wrote 2 pgs on writing. Completely forgot about that. If I do bad on writing, can I send scores without it?!

In the preceding sentence to the rails question. They said they “put down 8000 miles of rails.” It would make no sense to go from plural to singular.

Math and science are usually my best (normally none wrong), but I managed time horribly on science and had to guess randomly on the last 4. On math, I made 2 dumb mistakes, hopefully that doesn’t bring me down too much. I think I aced English and Reading, maybe 1 or 2 wrong. Hopefully I can pull out a 33, maybe 34? I will certainly be re-taking, I know I can ace math and science.

@rollingdice- stop posting your 240 PSAT and 2370 SAT on every single ACT thread when introducing yourself…it does not increase the validity of your statements…you could very well be a ■■■■■

Copy and pasting from that “curve discussion”

Curves are always predetermined by previous tests, so you may never know =/ This is my input.

English: For sure, the curve will be a bit harsh. Probably a -1 will drop you down to a 34 or something.
Math: It was actually quite difficult. I could have sworn that I saw 3 questions from the math section that were exactly copied off of the Barron’s practice test. Anyways, probably -1 will still be a 36. A -2 or -3 could most likely get you a 35. Math geniuses can rejoice upon that.
Reading: I hate reading. But, if I had to guess, I think -1 will actually get you a 35 and a -3 will drop you to a 33.
Science: Science curves are ALWAYS harsh. But, as I looked at the science, I’m guessing that -1 will get you a 35, -2 will get you a 33, -3 probably a 32, and -4 most likely a 30.

These are just guesses. I’m never right most of the time…though, I pray that I did well 'cause this ACT was probably one of the more difficult tests I’ve taken out of all the practice tests I’ve done.
