Official Georgetown transfer thread fall 2013

With finals approaching and everyone constantly asking me if I heard back from Georgetown yet, I wouldn’t mind waiting until June 1st when I’m free.

Does anyone have any information on SFS this year? Is it gonna be super competitive?

@Lumberjack

I think it is competitive every year.

According to earlier posts it sounds as if McDonough has become more competitive than ever seen in previous years.

^What are your stats?

But guys, do remember that there are over 1000 (I assume) people applying and only 20-25 have participated in the forum. A large population of MSB applicants on CC does not mean that it is representative of the application pool. I say that, as an MSB applicant, to ease my own nerves. :)

I was commenting on McDonough being more competitive than previous years due to an earlier post by SFSRules which stated:

“For the incoming Frosh class, MSB had the lowest acceptance rate of the 4 colleges for the 1st time in GU history. GU points to the recession as the driving factor for students focusing on a more “marketable” degree. But, in a few weeks, we’ll see if this holds true for transfer applicants.”

@SAT100
4.0 GPA
State school - 20,000 students
Sophomore with junior status - 57 credits earned (72 by the end of this semester)
Applied to McDonough - International Business

HS (If my high school performance is factored into my admission decision my chances were shot before I even clicked ‘Apply to Georgetown’)
HS GPA - 91/100
SAT: 1650/2400 (supascore)
Varsity wrestling and baseball

EC’s
RA at my current school - direct supervisory over 60 residents indirect stewardship of 1300
Quad representative for environmental sustainability - I cary out sustainability initiatives on the quad and within the residence hall.
President and founder of Meals That Heal, which is a 501(c)3 certified cancer charity - mealheal.org. (Probably what I highlighted most on my app)

Definitely procrastinated my application, but recs were decent and even though essays were rushed they came out pretty well. I actually submitted my app on March 1st at 11:58 PM EST, thinking I was only 2 minutes before the deadline until after submission when I realized the app was set for PST. (As you can see I wasn’t joking about rushing my app lol)

On the verge of closing an internship in finance in Frankfurt for this summer (God willing) in which case I’ll try and send them the news, which would hopefully give me a boost if they’re still reviewing me. I asked earlier whether or not anyone has had any experience updating their applicant profile in regards to internships/awards?

Not really expecting any special news back on June 1st, but having always had Georgetown as my dream school and falling so far from that dream during high school, I felt that I at the least owed it to myself to apply after turning over a new leaf in college.

And yes I applied only to Georgetown.

Wow How did you find out about an internship in Frankfurt?

It’s through a friend of a friend type scenario. I have a telephone interview next week, if all goes well things should be looking pretty good. Then again, never want to speak too soon.

Just sent in a request for an early read. UNC and UVA both have deadlines on May 15.

^Let me know how it goes. I will probably send one in tomorrow.

Who do you send for the early read?

^you have to call the admission office and explain you have another deposit due.

Just got an email back telling me that I will find out my decision next week… Ugh, I don’t want to wait another week!!!

If you ask for an early read, does that mean they tell you the outcome earlier and have ready made it or does it mean they pull your application out before everyone else’s to make a decision?

They said an early read will give me an idea of what to expect. Not sure if what they tell me from the early read will be the official decision.

It’s 5/1, and no one has heard??

@jay327

I know right?

the website does say: June 15: Reply Date for All Accepted Transfer Students
I know earlier this year it said June 1st.

@cheergirl2010

But the thing is the notification of acceptance comes in via e-mail much earlier than June 1st.
