***Official Georgia Tech Class of 2019 EA Applicant Thread***

I just got an email of congratulations from the Women’s Recruitment Team, almost thought it was the honors program…please someone post if they get into honors college!!

This is really confusing. Does everyone who got accepted EA get an invitation by default or only a select few? Are any invitations extended to RD admitted students?

Invited to apply for Honors Program. Just got the email.

My D got invited to apply to Honor’s and Grand Challenges.

Everyone gets that invitation email. All accepted students can apply.

My DS received the Honors Program invite and an invite to the Grand Challenge Program…and now we are headed off to find out what they both entail.

Me too, it seemed like a generic email so maybe it’s to all accepted students

Thanks for the clarification. Some made it seem as though the invitation itself was exclusive. I think it is only from the EA admitted pool, right?

LOL! Are you telling me that everyone gets invited? That’s like those schools that sent application fee waivers to “special” applicants and then we found out that no one pays a fee! Everything in the college application process has been a marketing strategy.

Some fee waivers were specifically sent for high subject test or AP scores. I agree, though-lots of marketing all around.

If EA acceptance rate is 45% out of 11K EA applicants, how does the class size be 2800??

@docs85 Not everyone accepted decides to attend. Their yield rate is usually somewhere in the 30-40 percent range.

The emails for the honors college came out. Does it come out to everyone who got accepted or is it just for those who are qualified enough?

I really want to go to Georgia tech. But I don’t think my parents will be able to afford this considering we’re OOS

Only those admitted EA get honors invitations.

I agree nebeyu6317, I really want to attend but can’t afford :frowning:

According to their website this is the selection process: We begin by opening our online application to students who apply to Georgia Tech by the Early Action deadline and are subsequently offered admission by the Georgia Tech Office of Undergraduate Admissions, since it is the responsibility of Admissions to make the initial determination about each applicant’s capacity to succeed academically at Tech.

GT knows that, on average, only about 10-12% of those applying actually accept. So since about 26,900 applied this year, based on past years, about 2800 will start. This has been fairly constant. Remember the average kid applies to about 10 colleges. However this year they have the highest application rate from women ever, over 40%. Cost for an OOS kid, based on my cost, is about $44,000, much less than the private northern schools averaging about $60K.

Hi, I was deferred.
I think it’s mainly because of my ACT.
Previous scores:
M:34
E:30
E/W: 28

I got my scores from the December ACT!

New scores:
M:36
E:31
E/W: not received yet

What are my chances like?

PCMguy - You have a good chance. The ACT for EA selected averaged 32 with an SAT score of 2197. While you were deferred you are still going to be better off with your new scores (make sure you get them in and in some way if you really want to go there let them know that in admissions - Write them separately if you have to, or if you are close by visit the admissions office and meet with a counselor). Those that are regular decision have ACT and SAT scores a bit lower than those selected for EA. GT seems to place more importance on the Math and the Writing than the Reading. They told my son who is now a sophomore that they want kids good in Math and Writing, while Reading came secondary because they do not care about how well you understand the tone of the author when writing a technical paper. He had a very high Math score and average Reading score but also wrote an essay they really liked. He loves the school but gets overwhelmed with the homework load. Fortunately many of his classes are curved.
