***Official Harvard Class of 2012 Waitlist Thread***

can anyone in the admitted students facebook group confirm a large number of people admitted from the waitlist joining the group??

I'm not in the admitted students group, but I've been watching it pretty closely...okay, obsessively....and it's only grown by ten people since Monday. Which I think is a pretty good sign. When Princeton (which I'm also on the waitlist for) made their first wave of decisions the group grew around 30+ (I haven't been watching that as closely, haha.) AND, Princeton is taking less than half as many people as Harvard is off the waitlist.

It's ridiculous that facebook gives insight into this type of thing. But useful, nonetheless. :p

I think the FB investigation is an AMAZING idea, and I love how it makes this even more complicated.

but doesn't joining the group require an email? Maybe the new waitlist admits don't have harvard emails yet, or something... :

gadli, how did your counselor know about harvard being done with the first wave already? Did the admissions officer tell her/him that?

my GC is very well connected with harvard... i go to a new england prep school and she used to work for the harvard admissions office. i'm pretty sure that her word is the truth.

another good point, 1nkbl0tch.

but considering that there has been a 10 person increase that either means a. that some waitlisted kids HAVE gotten an e-mail (which if true, i dont see why some would get it and others not) or b. 10 kids who got in during the RD decisions were released randomly decided to join the group

Rumors, speculation, innuendo, "confidential informants," insiders, spies, eavesdroppers, and guidance counselors never got anyone admitted to H. Only a phone call from the Admissions Office, followed up by an email, followed up by a letter will accomplish that. If it's meant to be, it will be. If not, I'm willing to bet that everyone on here has put down a deposit at a great school that 98% of college applicants would die to get into.

when you say that "it's only grown by ten people since Monday" does that mean a net gain of 10?...or have exactly 10 people joined? Because if the number went from like 1,053 to 1,063 since monday that would probably mean that some unknown number joined and some unknown left, which isn't helpful.

yes, WhereAmIGoing, i have put down a deposit at a school I am very fortunate to be attending. but this is the harvard waitlist thread, and it's "fun" to dream sometimes

well, i don't think it's very possible to know that exactly 10 people joined :

Does the harvard group kick out people who don't have email address/ aren't planning to go? I know the MIT group did that a while ago. If that's the case then maybe the 10 people increase would be more accurate. Good point though.

the harvard group requires an e-mail account. i don't think waitlistees will have gotten email addresses yet.

and they haven't kicked anyone out yet, because i know 7 people in the group who turned down harvard.

if you need an email to join, why wouuld there be a need to kick people out?

does the harvard group not display "# more members" ?

it is possible, however, that some were taken off the waiting list at YPS and decided to leave. plus, i'm still in the groups for all the universities I was admitted to, so maybe not everyone in the group is actually going

i don't know what to think anymore. 2 unconnected anonymous supposedly inside informants versus the official ambiguously published word

whether the number 144 is correct or not, the article on the gazette clearly stated that "more than 200" will be accepted, mostly until the end of May... so i think it's too early to give up, as there are still a lot of spots left, and it's only May 15th!

and is there anybody going to columbia if not accepted into harvard?? :)

Gadli:
What abou your classmates: has anyone been admitted from waitlist (I would assume there are many waitlistees at your school)?

Anyone from FL/nearby heard anything yet?

nope (orlando)

citymom: not that i've heard of... there are 5 or 6 students waitlisted. there's a guy on my hall who also was waitlisted and is going to yale for crew.
