Official Harvard SCEA 2016 Applicants' Discussion Thread

I haven’t posted on this thread yet, but I’v been reading your posts every day. Honestly you guys are driving me crazy! I keep trying to forget about Dec 15th, but you guys are making it really hard

Two weeks!

nothing i could really see trumping harvard other than geographical reasons, like living across the continent, but im in the Northeast so its all good. Since i wont be getting financial aid, I’d say only a full-ride to a top school (UVA, Vanderbilt, Duke) could come close.

I’d very much like to stay in Southern California. If it means giving up Harvard for a solid liberal-arts college like CMC or a not-as-prestigious university like USC or UCLA, well, it could be worth it. Of course, location isn’t the only factor (though, for me, it’s a big one), but all of the schools I listed above have a large advantage over Harvard in that regard.

Did anyone else, while in class, constantly think about the fact that the super committee was meeting all day discussing applications?

Haha, the supercommittee. That makes it sound so much more ominous, especially since that other supercommittee failed…

I wish they’d tell us if we’ve made it past the subcommittee or not.

Haha! I was, for sure. I just keep wondering, “Am I even being considered, at this point? What could I have changed?”. Nerve-wracking. Thank God for R&B and Japanese AP homework (the only things keeping me from watching the countdown timer from 6 AM to 11 PM :P)

I actually find the weather at Harvard to be a plus - I love the snow (though I’m weird cuz I’m from Alaska). I’m not really considering any college in the Southern half of the country because it would be too warm for me. I may still apply to Brown PLME, but I don’t think even that could sway me away from Harvard.

If I get rejected/deferred, then I’ll probably apply to all the other Ivys, plus MIT, Northwestern, and University of Michigan. Really hoping I get in so I don’t have to finish all these applications…

@theagentofchaos: your post exactly describes my feeling right now, o distressed fellow. ‘Just tell us already!’

So I had my interview today and my interviewer said that she’s predicting an overall admission rate of 5%.

I died a little inside.

The admission rate has gone down every year, so maybe she was extrapolating that data.
Anyone know what the predicted EA rate is? 17%ish?

but stillllll. sigh. columbia finds out the 8th (?), upennwharton finds out the 9th, harvard finds out the 15th?? WHAT IS THIS MADNESS. i keep hoping that they’ll finish early and release earlier than planned;) these next two weeks are going to draggggg.

I’m pleased with the process. The reason it takes them longer than all other schools is because they try to make it as fair as possible.

So today I learned that my best friend has been getting personalized letters from Harvard since March.

…why do I even bother…

Anyone think that Harvard will match UPenn’s date, or will it still be on the 15th?

Ojodeltigre, Harvard instilled an “undergraduate minority recruitment program” this year. Your friend is likely a URM or comes from a low socioeconomic background.

I think they do an excellent job of advertisement, since the general Harvard application booklet they sent me was in black and white (which probably means they produced a bulk of copies to send out). I bet it contributes greatly to their low acceptance rate and relatively high yield rate.

Should be the 15th. The date (and even time) has been on Harvard’s website since August. :P

Hopefully they pull a Stanford and release decisions a week ahead of schedule.

anyone else an east coast insomniac? no? it’s pretty lonely around here.

Aye <therealfake>, you’re never really lonely…</therealfake>

At CC you have the luxury of friends across time zones :D

~Pleasant Indian Evening here :)
