The Common App and the portal don’t always match up. For a while the Common App said my teacher recs had been downloaded, but the portal said they hadn’t. Eventually it changed to saying everything was received. I’d just go by what Harvard’s saying.

Ughh but at least that said theyd been downloaded. But you sure the teacher recs ARE documents?

Yup. Well it’s like teacher recs, the counselor report, and test scores.

…What about Harvard makes it especially efficacious in this regard?

Not necessarily just Harvard, but all the Ivies, Little Ivies, etc. What about them? Probably the people you are always surrounded by (students and faculty alike) that have a huge influence on a still-developing thought process and vocabulary. That is likely the single most significant reason.

Also, I don’t know what I’m saying or why I’m saying it these days, I’m just too anxious and nervous in these last few days to pay attention to much else. Probably not a good thing.

4 days until decision! Anyone going to watch the Hobbit afterwards?

I’m excited for the Hobbit too. I’ll probably see it Friday after school or on Saturday.

@blankk I had the same problem bc my teachers mailed in their recs instead of using Naviance. Just have your guidance counselor call; that’s what I did and everything checked out.

[Countdown to Dec 13, 2012 5:00 PM in Cambridge](Time since Dec 13, 2012 5:00 pm started in Cambridge, Massachusetts)

Man, you guys get your decisions in a day early compared to us Yale early actioners Good luck to everyone. It took me a long time to choose between Yale and Harvard for early action. Either would be amazing to attend!

I’ve heard that for international students, not getting an interview is equivalent an instant rejection. In fact in Malaysia last year, “no one was shortlisted for interviews as they are not considered competitive enough.” Can anybody debunk this rumor of international interviews or is it really true?

@JellyDuck I think it’s totally true. Cruel, isn’t it? I think it’s because they can’t rely too much on the transcript and activities(since Internationals are using completely different grading systems) An interview is a must. And as for China, a Harvard interview usually takes 1 - 2 hours.

Oh dear, that doesn’t sound too good. If I applied on the 29th
November, in the UK, for regular decision, is it a bad thing that I haven’t heard back yet from Harvard Club UK - the body that organises the interviews?

@POmani

Nothing to worry about. I’m sure Harvard is bogged down with REA applicants and making last minute decisions about them. They probably won’t read your application so fast.

There’s an official Class of 2017 Facebook group now…

@JellyDuck oh right, thanks for your reassurance :)

Do Harvard applicants get their decisions through the website or through email?

I personally think emails are better, as 4000 people logging on at the same time could cause…some problems.

It’s through email I’m sure

@johnsmith7101 Oh mannn…how I hope to be able to join that group soon!! D:

Also, random question. Does anyone know what the subject line of the email would say? Like I think it would be a little weird to get the email and see the title “congrats” or “sorry” or something right away haha.
