Official Harvard SCEA Class of 2019 Applicants Thread

Thanks.
Also, does anyone know where one could find examples of the EC 150 words essay? Not sure how to approach/write it. I know I’m asking a lot of simple questions but I’m from the UK… :pensive:

Is there any way I can start my financial aid application now before I send in my admission application on November 1?

i made my EC essay 250 words not 150…

i kinda purposely did this because i wanted to show that i didn’t use the same essay as princeton and a few other ivies

omg ■■■ nvm

@PcollegegirlP‌ Thanks! :slight_smile:
@HobbitTon‌ Yes, just go to the Harvard Financial Aid page to find the documents for EA and the instructions.
@LucasKovacs‌ I found some on Apstudynotes.org a few days ago.

Question: Just wondering…how much do AP scores weigh during the application process? I go to a non-competitive large public high school, which allows me to get pretty much straight A+'s in the AP classes but mostly 4’s and one 5 on the actual AP exams. (Our school is pretty ghetto with maybe 0-1 kid getting a 5 in the available subjects every year…) (And yea…I am Eastern Asian, too  )

AP scores will carry little to no weight in the admissions decision, although the relationship of your scores vs. grades might raise an eyebrow about grade inflation at your HS.

If anyone else is currently applying for financial aid, please let me know.

One specific thing I’m confused on. For the CSS application on collegeboard, it says $16 per university and that I can add/remove universities at any time BEFORE submitting. Does that mean I can’t add universities when I apply RD?

I’m going for financial aid but I’m a little confused too. Just what to do really…

I’m also confused on whether or not we have to add all universities before submitting. That’s a little ridiculous because i would wait until decisions come out to submit my other ones. Also do you guys know how long it takes before a interviewer contacts you?

For your supplement document, did you double space and Times New Roman size 12?

@HobbitTon‌: I single-spaced, with an extra space in between each paragraph in TNR 12pt. I don’t think the formatting matters too much, as long as it’s easily readable and not anything crazy :)

did you all send in additional teacher rec letters? I asked a teacher. She sent it in. but I don’t see it in “Application Status Portal”. Does anyone else have this problem?

You do not.

I also single-spaced with a line between paragraphs, but I doubt that format matters.

did i screw up my chances by not submitting by oct 15… look at what harvard says for submitting early app earlier vs submitting regular app earlier than required

October 15
Early Action applicants: We recommend that you send your application by this date so that we may create and begin processing your file, and schedule an alumni/ae interview if possible.

December 15
If possible, send your Regular Decision application by this date. If you and your teachers have commitments that preclude submission of your application materials by December 15, please be assured that you will not be penalized in any way.

@fnl012‌: That’s just the suggested due date. The official due date is November 1st. If you send it in by November 1st, you will be considered for EA. Submitting the application earlier does not increase one’s chances; submitting the application later (so long as it is by the due date) does not decrease one’s chances. You haven’t jeopardized your chances, don’t worry!

@fnl012‌ , u do not need to worry, the official deadline is November 1st!
I know many people who haven’t yet submit their applications…
But you better start finishing your application, the deadline is almost here!

@fnl012, they said that if you submitted it a little earlier, than they could start arrange interviews and check your completion. If you just submit the commonapp that’d be good. supplement essay and others can be submitted after that - before 11.1.

@nomatterwhat How long after you submitting the common app, you can log into to “Applicant Status Portal” to check your status? I saw it needs “email address” and “password”. I am assuming you use the same email address in your application, but what about the password? Will they send you a password to log in after you submitting common app?

@2019mom I got an email the day after I submitted my application with the username and the password for the portal. If you didn’t get an email yet i would email admpin @ fas . harvard . edu and the only thing you have to put in the email is your name.
