Good luck Ethan and everyone else. This waiting sucks! Hopefully the rest will come soon. I just had a minor panic with Elliott as they lost my undergrad transcript so I had to send them a new one. They said copies would be fine, but of course I don’t have those so I had to send for them all over again. Oh well, they have them now and hopefully we’ll all hear good news soon!

you know, when i applied for undergrad at elliott they lost my transcripts too!

It appears, from Grad Cafe, that American SIS has sent out their decisions. Someone apparently received one today (by mail). I don’t think SIS sends out decisions by email.

Apparently American SIS will notify by snail mail, and apparently it already has gone out or will go out soon. I did a phone info session and the lady said the notices would go out by the third week in March (like most of them say anyway). Someone on thegradcafe said you could e-mail them to get your decision, but I don’t know if that is true or not. Just keeping my fingers crossed here!

Got my fat acceptance package to SIS today…Still waiting on Elliot and Georgetown’s MSFS

I got my SIS packet today too (I’m in the upstate NY area). Still waiting on Elliott, SAIS, Fletcher, and BU. At least I have options now. Good luck everyone!

Likewise (I’m in SC). Waiting for SAIS, Fletcher, and MSFS.

Congrats guys - what do you think of American? Firefly - do you prefer American over Syracuse? I’m surprised American dosent give employment statistics - do you guys know the job situation with a degree from American?

Just a heads up - The Grad Cafe is also reporting that Oxford is starting to send out rejections in IR - in case anyone applied there.

SIS Master’s is a 2-yr course, right? I’m just looking at the credits now. If so, we’d only be required to take about 9hrs/semester?

Congratulations, guys Rmaguir - yes, it’s a two-year course, but the programs require between 39-45 (International Media) credits to graduate, so if your program is 39 credits, you’d technically be taking 9 credits each semester except one, where you’d have to take 12 (or do 3 over the summer between your first and second year).

Ethan321 - I don’t have exact statistics on job placements for SIS and can only provide anecdotal evidence, so take this for what it’s worth, but a lot of people I know have already gotten jobs (several months or more prior to graduation) they’re happy with. The school is well-respected and employers seem to think highly of it; a friend of mine was recently hired by an organization that specifically mentioned they’d had “such good luck with SIS graduates”. Of course, there are people who don’t have jobs yet and recent graduates who have had trouble finding a position, but I (objectively) wouldn’t say that their misfortune was due to the fact that they attended SIS.

When the hell is GWU gonna feel me in? Have any of you received anything from G-Dub yet?

I don’t think that elliott has sent anything out yet.

on gradcafe though a few people mentioned about how they received emails from gwu that they were under scholarship consideration and would probably be accepted.

I called GWU the other day - they said they havent sent anything out and are shooting for the 20th. She said all the decisions should be online by then.

Hey Ethan,

I had the same thoughts about SIS that you did. My first reaction was that the jobs stats must not be impressive if they are not posted, but after asking around, I’ve been reassured.

I assume you got the SAIS email about decisions coming soon. I am unusually well acquainted with SAIS (Bologna) --long story. SAIS has a very impressive career services office. Quite the operation; they engage you before you even start classes! I know SIS has more students and fewer people in career services. SAIS students start going on organized trips to meet with prospective employers in their first semester of school…crazy right? A result of very loyal alumni in the working world, the school’s reputation, and a well-funded career services team. If accepted to SAIS, it won’t be my reason for choosing the school, but still an important consideration.

All that aside, as someone who knows more SAIS people than anyone else who hasn’t done a degree there, I would be incredibly surprised if you weren’t accepted.

Bryan

Ethan,
At this point I’m not sure which I prefer. I do like that Syracuse’s program would give me two degrees and that they have study abroad built into the program (aka you HAVE to go somewhere else for a summer and a semester). However American does strongly encourage study abroad as well. As for job placement I don’t know that much about American although I’m going to have to look into it more since they want to give me some money, which is always a nice incentive. At Syracuse they did seem very involved in getting students jobs, maybe not as much as SAIS, but the students I talked to said the school had been very helpful and because it’s a pretty big school (including undergrad) there is a large alumni network who are very willing to help other SU students get jobs. I don’t know any stats about placement or anything though. I have a feeling for me that it will come down to American and SU for me (unless I get into SAIS, which I’m not counting on at this point), but I have to see if SU wants to give me money and then do some more research. Thoughts from anyone else?

Bryan - Thanks for your contribution…were you referring to me when you said you would be surprised if I didnt get accepted into SAIS? What are you basing that on?

EDIT: I’m a bit flattered but also frustrated because I never applied to SAIS. I assumed that my weak GPA, lack of extensive work experience, and lack of a quant. courses in undergrad would hurt my app. but perhaps it was a foolish decision on my part. I’m waiting to hear from Gtown and GWU Elliot.

Georgetown (Walsh School of Foreign Service) says that all decision letters will be in the mail on or before April 1.

Virtually all of Fletcher’s decision letters are posted online at the “Grad App Management” link (via the log-in code and password you received when you completed your app. If yours isn’t there yet, it will be by noon Monday.

I am going to try to finish the SIS program in a year and a summer. 15, 15, then 9 credits. I will see if the adviser can work this in.
