Official May 2008 SAT discussion

It was 4

30 days in June.

89 babys.

Lets say every day but the one had 3 (3*29)=87
So the least the day with more would have is 4.

Terrible explanation.

Btw, just to make it clearer, it can't be 3 babies per day because 3(29) = 87, leaving only 2 left for the 15th. The problem said that more babies were born on the 15th than any other day.

kmz thats wrong because not all the other days had the same number of babies

Here is the solution.
lets put number only Italian is x
then number both Italian and German is also x
and number of taking Italian is x+x
So
(Italian: x+x)+(German: x+x+3)-(Both Italian and GErman: x)=30
3x+3=30
3x=27
x=9

Parochial was one of the answers. It was used in the context of being limited in scope.

Umm, last time I checked, 87 + 4 = 91 which is greater than 89..

The babies question aked for the minimum the 15th could have had. The 15th had more than any other day. The answer was 4, most of the other days had 3, a few had 2.

ccfaithful you misread the question. The number of only italian PLUS only german EQUALED number of dual language. Therefore, number of italian only PLUS number of german only EQUALED 15. Therefore, german only equaled 9, italian only equaled 6 (which is 3 less than 9, the number of german only).

No i know. I did a poor job explaining.

Not all the other days had the same number of births.

So using 3 each day as a base is the closest to 89.

So I was saying a possibility was that 27 days had 3, 2 days had 2, and then the 15th had 4.

The answer is 4 to the babies problem. Think of it this way. Instead of 89 babies, lets just say 90 babies because in this problem it won't make a difference since we need a whole number anyway.

90/30 = 3

3 babies per day average

So the least possible solution is 4 babies with the rest of the days of the month having 3 babies (besides one day with 2 babies). Simple, eh?

What was the question for the merry go round again. I know i got 60 as an answer

^ I didn't have any such question.
Probably your experimental. :)

Ah... I didn't think of some of the days having more than 2. My bad, haha. Another one wrong! :(

:-/ That sucks. It seems like you read the question as all the other days having the same... It was grid in though so no point loss :)

i could have sworn the merry-go-round was the same section as the babies...hmmm
did you have the one with the two triangles connected at a point where you had to solve for one side (i think the answer might have been 8)

wow. what a long read. I just read everything that was posted. I came to 6 for that stupid italian one. I coudln't figure it out, but when i punched some #s in, i saw a 6.... sooo... thus i chose it. 9 was just retarded, but someone 100% tell.

really there was a question where slope was 1? and 0? how come i dont remember....

if you are talking about mine, it said like "There are two parallel lines "m" and "l". Their y intercepts are 4 and 10 respectively. If the distance between them is 6, what is the slope of line m?"

last grid in question for my section two math, i thought the answer was zero. did everyone else have this question? i'm hoping it's a secret experimental section <_<, cause i think i had four maths but i don't remember anything about a lock.

I had four math sections as well, but I didn't have a question about a lock, either. Maybe there are multiple math experimental sections. There was one math section where I didn't miss any; I really hope that math section was experimental.

Also, did anybody else notice tons of consecutive answers when they were filling out their answer sheet? I must have had 5 places where I had 3 consecutive answers, and I even had one place with 4 consecutive answers.

And, was one of the CR sections answers "veneration"? I read the next two passages, and it said how the Native Americans venerated snakes, so I assumed in the context, it meant respect. And I went back to the vocab part, and the context of one of the questions seemed like the answer would be veneration.

Yeah I noticed too that one of the sentence completions was venerate/veneration and then it actually used it on the next passage. i was just thinking "lol way to go collegeboard, why couldn't you do this more often?"

For the grid-ins, the last question was .5. I'm almost positive. I don't think the grid-ins are experimental.
