**OFFICIAL Mt SAC CC TRANSFER THREAD**

You do need 60 units to transfer, you have the rest of the year to complete them. You don’t need to have them all completed by the time of your application.

You can take 1A in the Fall and 1C in the Spring, but your acceptance will be conditional upon you completing those classes. You can wait for week 3/4 to see if anyone drops, but the chances are pretty slim and you could just be wasting your time. Try to see if an 8 week 1A course starting in October will work for you. They don’t advise you to take 1A in the intersessions, but there is always Winter.

Oh…I am Math major.
If I can take 1A in this semester, I can have 16units.
I will have 69units by spring.
and my question is that if I take Engl 1A at winter, can I still apply UC for fall 2011.

Yes. They don’t care what sessions in the year you take 1A and 1C, they just care that it all gets done by the end of Spring.

However, just remember that your acceptance will be conditional.

@churroke - oh no never…its not awkward. its better to be one step ahead of the game.
go for it!

and you can apply to UC’s if you have the IGETC in progress. but for some majors, they want all major pre-reqs done or certain classes done before the spring of the year you are applying too.

for example, if they want you to complete bio 1 before spring then you must take it now-before spring. if you take it in the spring then they can/will deny you your admission. so make sure you knwo what classes you MUST have completed.

you can ask linda about all that, she knows it way better than i do.

@chaaa - as flutie mentioned, if you were to get accepted it would be conditional. so in worse case scenario if you dont get the class you will have to 1. beg the prof to be added if no one drops… 2. pay someone to drop (yes ive seen people do this and yes people will drop)

since you will have so many units by spring, i would assume you are safe. in the case you arent, ask someone (friend, stranger, whoever) with a really early registration date to hold the eng 1C for you but if its honors u want…then ask someone in honors. just make sure your own registration date is before the begining of waitlists otherwise holding serves no purpose.

best of luck!

Good looking on that college ranking link daniese. Interesting read…

Didnt know that USC costs that much more…

USC: $41,022
UCLA: $10,781

4yrs at UCLA = 1yr at USC… DAMN!!

10k is tuition alone.
41k is also tuition alone though

im guesstimating a upper-middle class family will be paying about…

45-50k for USC
and 21-28k for UCLA

which is still half the cost of USC.

so if USC keeps climbing the ranks…it will finally be true that you get for what you pay for. but for the most part privates are able to offer more FA to students, and unless you live in the state of CA, UCLA can almost just as expensive as USC :(

OMG ratemyprofessors has turned into crap… new rankings and probably inaccurate ones… :frowning:
http://ratemyprofessors.com/SelectTeacher.jsp?sid=13734</a></p>

Gonna take some action and notify RMP that someone hacked into their site…

I need that site for my classes next semseter!

@blackmamba2140 at least there’s a start! it’s okay…we still have a few more semester before we transfer…the rating will get better.

@Dainese…just wondering…if I apply for fafsa for USC…how much would I receive? and from your perspective…is it worth it?

@churroke - im not financial aid expert and even smoeone with extensive FA experience wouldnt be able to tell you an estimate as to how much aid youd recieve… :frowning:

i know cuz ive tried asking as well haha

from my perspective, i know i am paying a lot for my education.
but its about making the most of it and what it has to offer.
im not saying that UCB or UCLA wont be able to offer you the same thing or more
but USC had what i wanted and it felt the best.

i visited UCLA and USC beforehand and USC was the place to be for me.
ive seen people who are not rich still paying a lot just to go
but i also know people who are not rich and are not paying anything, one is actually a mtsac transfer too

you might even meet her when the norman topping scholarship info session comes around :)

@Dainese… thanks I’ll definitely visit both University if I qualify. And another thing… there’s these “transfer events” and “workshop”…have you been in them? do you know what they are? …because I tried going there…there’s only student on the computer and no one else…and I just put my email for more info. and they haven’t send me anything yet.

there are upcoming transfer events, they are basically 20-30 minute powerpoint lectures about what the thing is and how to do it and they are there for any questions you may have :)

i have gone to a few and they end up being really useful if you have no clue about the process.

email i received from LINDA DIAZ about TAG

Hello everyone. I hope all is going well this second week of school. In the Fall semester, however, there is never a shortage of things to do, particularly for those of you who are preparing to transfer for Fall 2011. So, I am sending out the excellent powerpoint developed by Krystle Bybee in the Transfer Center which explains the TAG application process. TAG is a tremendous opportunity for those of you applying to the UC’s to be considered for a guarantee of admission. TAG applies to all UC’s — except UCLA and Berkeley.

The powerpoint addresses each campus and its individual rules and limitations. Please read it carefully. There is only one area of consistency with all campuses – you MUST submit the TAG application between September 1st and September 30th, 2010.

To get started, go to uctag.universityofcalifornia.edu and create your user ID and password. Have a copy of your transcript nearby as you will need to enter each course, whether transferable or not, on the form. If you get stuck on any part, please visit the Transfer Center or Honors. For those of you who are not ready to transfer for Fall 2011, please still read it over as you will be applying in the very near future and need to be aware of the requirements.

As always, good wishes are being sent your way. Okay - get busy with TAG!

Great info on TAG daniese. Might attend that tag workshop since I dont have class…

Having class twice a week makes time go by so much faster… 2 yrs will go by in no time.

@Dainese…do you have to be in Honors program to sign up for TAG?

and once we join TAG…can we still apply to LA and B? thanks

yes and yes

if i remember correctly…TAG requires you to tag to 1 school, have a 3.5 GPA and finish 6 honors courses + IGETC.

the benefits of TAG
-guaranteed admission
-honors student at UC
-TAG scholarships
-TAG housing

cons of TAG
-can only TAG 1 school, meaning you can only get this…free ticket admission to 1 UC of your choice.

 • NOT ALL MAJORS ARE "TAG"able (i believe only the ones that you audition for are the ones that are not avaible. IE: arts/music/theater)

but remember TAG and TAP are different. UCLA/UCB do NOT have TAG. they have TAP.
i really suggest you attend the workshop if you have the time.
krystle is great, very sweet. i cant stress it enough that there are little/few good counselors at mtsac.

the few i know from experience who are good are…

krystal - talk to her about transferring to any school. if she doesnt know the answer she will most certainly help you find it

she is located in the transfer center

linda - words cannot describe what this woman can do for you.

she is in the honors center

lastly, desiree -great for anyone looking for FA/scholarship help!

ALSO great for anyone thinking about USC and needs some help with scholarships. ESP the norman topping scholarship. she used to be the head honcho for that scholarship, so she knows almost all the ins/outs about it.

find her in the financial aid department

okay…so TAG is “guarantee transfer” BUT WHAT IF you only complete ONLY A FEW of prerequisite for major before applying…are you still GUARANTEE…because the qualification is 60 transfer unit and 6 honors courses from sac?..man…I’m still not getting it…

haha just attend the workshop if you have time, its a little hard to understand online.

i dont think you need pre-reqs for TAG. just IGETC.
but again, attend the workshop and they will explain it much much better :)

Thanks I’ll definitely will. So I just show up on sep7 in 2nd floor? Is there enough space for all of us?

yup. these ‘workshops’ are generally never full. from my experience ive never had more than 7 people show up haha…

unless its orientation. then thats different,
