Official National Merit Semifinalist Qualifying Score Thread for the Class of 2013

Minimom, I interpreted post #362 by lunaAndAberforth as the cutoff is more than 209 but less than or equal to 212.

So there is still hope that 210 or 211 will be be enough for NMSF!

Please can everyone be specific and detailed in posts about what you know? That could help weed out questionable info. Who informed you that cutoff was X, how do they know, and what do they mean exactly? Are they telling you the lowest score to make it at your school is X, in which case there might be a gap of a few points where your school has no scorers so that might not be the actual state cutoff, or are they quoting from the cut listed in the printed materials from NMSC? Are you at a school with lots of NMSF where personnel are used to dealing with NMSC, is your GC knowledgeable, are you in a small school where NMSF are rare and perhaps principal/GC don’t completely understand what they are reading? Etc. If you aren’t sure, try to get clarification before you post. I know everyone is excited, but posts like “I heard 218 is the cutoff in Z” could use some fleshing out. If you didn’t make it onto your school’s NMSF list, are you sure you are in the pool of candidates? You should have received a letter from NMSC in mid-April informing you that you are among top 50K scorers. If you are at or above 200 and did not get this letter, contact NMSC stat. You may have bubbled something in the questionnaire on the test in a way that makes you ineligible and you need to fix this.

seriwe-- please try to glance at the illinois cutoff score if you can!

Seriwe - as long as you are looking could you see MI too? No pressure from all of us desperate posters ! :)

Collecting information like this is bound to have a few missteps–that it is not guaranteed is part of the bargain. The value inherent in the process–giving people fairly reliable information as soon as possible–far outweighs the occasional mistakes. I’ll take whatever information is sincerely offered and no one should take any post as gospel. In past years the cutoffs established by this process have ended up about 99% accurate but usually a little short of complete. We finish by calling the NMSC after scores are released.

I have had little trouble discerning between “my score qualified”, “the lowest score I know”, and “this was the cutoff for my state” posts. However some additional description might make things clearer for others.

As far as I know no one has specified FL lowest qualifying score, only a bracketing range.

Why don’t we just label all the scores as “LRQS” for “Lowest Reported Qualifying Score” and then if people want to clarify that it is the “CCS” for “Confirmed Cutoff Score” for a state it can be updated?

Can’t wait till Tuesday to make sure National Merit Corporation can confirm my son as a National Merit Semi-Finalist. One error on the form and it has taken months to get it fixed and still isn’t fixed. So frustrating, but will stay grateful that he even looks all set to be well over the state’s cutoff.

Okay, so Tuesday.

I CAN’T WAIT.

For WA I only know that 217 qualified, not that it was the cutoff.

Please help us with scores from Hawaii and Pennsylvania.
We are waiting to hear about HI and PA. Got em?
Please help even if bad news.

212 in Missouri made it for sure. Phew and yay!!!

Anyone know anything about Mississippi scores? GC said info came in last week, and she is going to look at it next week. :frowning: The wait is killing us.

@busyperson1
Still waiting in Mississippi too was out of school since Monday due to Isaac will go back on Tuesday hope to find out then.

I am only one of two people who qualified for NMSF in my school :). 216 in Florida!

Sent from my Nexus One using CC

213 in Indiana; one of only two from my school as well.

220 in Illinois. 1 of 10 from my school.

Has anyone from New Hampshire heard anything? Is anyone from New Hampshire even on here? Has anyone from New Hampshire heard if they’ve made it? If they haven’t made it? Anything from New Hampshire?! Thank you :)

@corvenco

Do you know what the lowest score that made it was? We want to know the cutoff.

Also, does anyone know how long it traditionally takes for someone from New Hampshire, or let’s say, New England even, to hear about NMSF?

Elaborating on previous post–

I’m 214 in IL. I was talking to the principal of my school at the football game yesterday and she told me that there was only one NMSF from my school and that the cutoff was 215.

made it in texas with a 217!

27 others from my school also
