Official National Merit Semifinalist Qualifying Score Thread for the Class of 2013

mahans of course datnab is correct
he has the book with all the names
also a big thank you to datnab for reposnding to the many people who have bugged him to let them know their scores(including me).

Anyone receive qualifying scores from Hawaii yet?

210 makes it in FL! I presume its the official cutoff score now! Thanks Datnab

Hope this helps 207 makes it in Mississippi

it looks like datnab received a publish list that is given out by collegeboard for each state that provides the student name, location etc for each state. I have seen a list published for the entire state in some cases last year. These lists essentially name names, locations and schools and don’t show a cutoff.

Datnab - good service!

Yes, what Datnab sent me is in exactly the same format as the press release from last year. I assume that is what will be released when the media blackout is lifted.

OHmyDD95 - That is correct about the three-digit codes, thanks! Just odd that they wouldn’t have a note somewhere on the list itself saying what the codes refer to.

Good luck to everyone still waiting! I can’t help with the list because my S was well above the cutoff for our state (didn’t want you to think I was intentionally not contributing!).

220 makes the cut in NY. Datnab, you are a rock star! Thank you for helping all of us with the info.

MA 220 or 221: this line makes me anxiouse.
My S has a 220 in MA and I am really hoping that the cut off is 220. But deep in my mind, it seems very unlikey that it will fall of 3 points. The interesting part is that he took SAT a month after and scored much above his PSAT score predicted…

Waiting for NMSC to open in 15 minutes. My son made a mistake on his form and put 2014 as his graduation year. GC said she fixed, no. I fixed it back in July with NMSC and yet here were are still… Not commended or a semi-finalist with a 220 in Maine. Unbelievable. So he’s now missed being on “The List”. Luckily he already knows where he wants to go so it’s ok he’s not going to show up on all the college lists.

^My daughter took it in January and had the same experience. Her PSAT scores as a sophomore and junior were almost identical (same total). It seems like we’re seeing lower scores because overall scores on this particular test were lower - and maybe you can’t really compare this class with the previous class. We were expecting a few points increase between the two testings.

Our town doesn’t have ANY semifinalists according to Datnab’s list, which would suggest 218 doesn’t make it in CT. But I know our school didn’t respond to confirm National Achievement eligibility last spring, so I don’t know if they also dropped the ball on National Merit, and that could be why we don’t have anyone on the list.

I’m so happy to report that my D made the cutoff in FL. She also is hispanic… and she reported this on her application. Does anyone know if she will earn both recognitions if she makes it to finalist? Also her Dad works for a company(Siemens) that sponsors NMS and her name is in for an award. Can she earn all of those recognistions or only one will be given?
This is all so overwhelming! Her number one school is Columbia! :-)

Yes Orlandofit, she earns both recognitions and is in the same boat as my son in TX. Please visit us on the Hispanic students thread under Specialty Admissions for more info. There are some very experienced parents of Hispanic students who can give you more assistance, such as entomom, sbjdorlo, itsv and smileygerl. They have kids who attend top schools such as Yale and MIT and can answer your questions.

thank you! I will do that. :-)

Ok! NMSC said my son is going to be a late-add student due to not getting his data correct until July but he will be a Semi-Finalist but they will call later today or tomorrow when his information is updated! His score was 220 for Maine so probably not near the cutoff score. Wooo Hooo!

Nevertheless we’ll take it, Bethorama33! And congratulations to him.

Thanks so much Datnab!! You are awesome!

Donivrian - have you contacted datnab with your details? It might be the best option to get an answer which will help MA students.

Those who have heard from datnab - please post your score and state. It is the only way at this point to validate the state scores already listed or not yet listed.

texaspg: I sent a PM to detnab now. Thanks for the suggession.
