Official National Merit Semifinalist Qualifying Score Thread for the Class of 2013

Do all boarding schools have a higher cutoff score than their state, or is this just a New England thing? For example, is there a Southern cutoff, a Mid-West cutoff, a West Coast cutoff? I’ve never seen this reported, but in looking at a couple of Southern boarding schools it seems their number of NM scholars has dropped in the past year or so.

WOOOOOO.

I qualified for the National Achievement and National Merit. :)

Don’t have any info about WI cutoff, except the previously posted <=209. Interestingly, Datnab’s list showed 19 NMSF from our school, which is the fewest ever. It’s always 25-30. So possibly WI’s score didn’t drop like other states? WI does have a dynamic where absolute and relative # of HS grads has been dropping in recent years, so NMSF allocation may fall, but not by that much. I guess it could just be a random fluctuation.

That’s interesting, celeste. We normally have 25-35 as well. Now, I’m really curious (though still don’t think my ds is among them).

I’ll probably be the only one from my school. >.>

Our counselor told me today he didn’t get anything yet, but since school is not in session yet, all mail may not have been distributed. Hopefully he’ll hear the official word soon.

DS has 223 in NJ, so I can’t imagine him not getting anything.

Sent pm to the awesome Datnab!

Datnab confirmed for me that my son is NMSF with 221 in MN!! Only one from his school. So excited and hoping for Carleton ED!!! Thanks Datnab!

LongHaul^

Congratulations to your son! I know he made it because my son made it with a 221 in NJ.

I apologize to all, it is my first day on here. do we know “officially” what the semifinalist score is for Florida…Thank you to any and all who respond!

Qualifying scores won’t be released “officially” by the NMSC until Sept. 12. Until then we try to piece together the picture based on the scores of qualifiers who have been notified in each state, and we end up doing a pretty good job. The 210 score we have for FL right now we consider final unless we receive a report that it isn’t accurate. Otherwise you’ll have to wait until Sept. 12 to contact the NMSC for an authoritative cutoff score.

Thank you so much for quick reply!!! S received a 212 in FL so I will assume he’s qualified!

It is an sound bet that he is, but please let us all know if it turns out otherwise.

Here’s to hoping a 206 makes it in West Virginia. The list is in the building, they just won’t tell us.

drjsierra and coopersmama: You could try sending a personal message query to Datnab who appears to have a master list of qualifiers. S/he has been confirming and disconfirming such queries.

I tried, but it says her/his inbox is full and won’t hold any more messages.

ditto on full inbox for Datnab

Datnab’s pattern has been to clear the inbox on a regular basis and post when it is available again. Try again soon thereafter.

I am so glad I found this site! Our GC has said nothing yet but thanks to the sharing users here I feel fairly confident for my daughter’s 218 in Texas.

He might have gone to school. Try again in the evening.

Just heard from Datnab – thank you so much for doing this !! A 220 in California made the list.
