Official National Merit Semifinalist Qualifying Score Thread for the Class of 2013

Oklahoma and Florida are getting results, must be getting close to Texas! I’ll probably ask the GC later this week if I still haven’t heard.

My principal…congrats again!

Yep, that is my understanding too, no state will have a cut off higher than 221.

Thank you very much! I assume you go to school in Washington too?

I stopped in my principal’s office today. He had the letter from National Merit… My son is a semifinalist in Wisconsin with a 212.

WIswimMom, did you ask what the cut score is for WI? Where in WI? Our GC claims they have nothing yet, but I don’t believe…

PA-C: which Boarding School region would that be?

Possibly. Usually the NE region has the highest cut-off.

10(?) Boarding school regions
No scores reported yet.
These usually are set to be equal to the highest cut-off score among the individual states in the region.

Internationals=?
This usually is set to be equal to the highest cut-off score among all the individual states.

Commended (national cutoff) = 200
Any person with a score equal to or higher than this cutoff who is not a NMSF receives commended status. This group represents the highest 50,000 scorers.

I asked the principal if he knew what the cut score was and he said no. He did tell me we had 4 kids make it from our school. Monona, WI (Monona Grove High School). Last year I think we only had 1 finalist.

all of these posts make me feel wayyy better about my 221…should be hearing soon now! CONGRATS TO EVERYONE!! this is so exciting!

I have been watching this thread for a while now. Thought I would register and add information to it. We homeschool in Alabama and got a great letter today stating that my son is now a National Merit Semifinalist with a score of 211! We are thrilled!

I’m homeschooled and just find out I made it with a 222 in Florida!! Yay! (I know a lower score has already been posted but I feel like celebrating). To those who made it–congratulations, and good luck in the next phase of the process. To those who didn’t–sorry to hear it, and good luck with your college apps. To those who don’t know–good luck, hang in there! If I got my scores at home I’m sure the schools did too, so maybe it’s time to heckle your guidance counselor about it.

WIswimMom, thx. I have one kid at Madison Memorial and a senior at Madison West. Neither will say anything, so frustrating.

So if it the NE Boarding School at 221…NJ may have a a different number and it could be higher??

Congrats to all who have had good news!!

Seems like scores are dropping around 2 points or so…

Our guidance counselors didn’t know anything… the letter went directly to the principal. I watched him open it up. I then walked over to the guidance counselor and she was excited to hear that my son had made it (we are good friends)

My daughter made it with 213 in SC.

Got word later that 206 made it in OK. 3 point drop.

I will consider the OK cut-off confirmed by OKdad’s post. Our first cut-off.

On boarding schools–nothing is certain, yet. According to my understanding it could be possible for one region to have a cut-off of 221 and other regions and states to have higher ones. My advice is to wait for more information before jumping to conclusions.

Oklahomadad…thanks so much for posting. My son is sitting at 208 and hasn’t heard anything yet. Whew! I’m so relieved.

Our homeschooled daughter made it with a 214 in Colorado.
