@empanada yes and no. NUin is a way for NU to fill beds (and, duh, make more money) on campus during spring semester to account for transfers out, co-op students, etc. On top of that, NU uses NUin as a way to protect our stats for USNWR/Princeton Review. Because NUin is like a guaranteed transfer program rather than a study abroad, NU doesn’t have to count the NUin students in our published admitted class statistics. To keep the best reputation but to also make the most money possible, NU admits the top-quality students (at least on paper) for the fall, while NUin students may be slightly less impressive as a candidate by the numbers. HOWEVER, please note that NUin acceptance is still an acceptance; it’s not like the waitlist, NU wants you! NUin just might be for students who don’t have as high stats but will still contribute to the NU community.
So, from students that NU sees as desirable in a lot of ways (you could juggle fire as an EC, or have a really interesting background which would add a lot to NU) but maybe not the highest GPA or test scores for whatever reason, these students are considered for NUin. From there, they try and pick students who they feel will do well in that environment; whether you have international experience, or anything in your essays that indicates a desire to do something like this.
You can’t opt out because NU doesn’t want to share your stats as part of the admitted class profile, but they want to give you the chance to be an NU student and by doing it in a pretty cool way.

Was pleasantly surprised, but given no aid because I was not granted a noncustodial parent waiver and my noncustodial parent refused to fill out his parts of the CSS profile… due to this I will not be accepting admission (hopefully this can help out someone on the wait-list).
If there was no link to financial aid does that mean you received no merit money? Or are we just looking in wrong place? Is the link on your acceptance page? If not where can I find it? Thanks
I believe that the addition of an NUIn option in Montreal, Quebec, Canada this year is an attempt to appeal to students (and parents) who may be hesitant to go overseas first semester. Montreal is only 40 miles from the US border and 300 miles from Boston. It is definitely an international experience in a bilingual city that is definitely unique and not just because of the French language. And the partner institution is McGill University, a major research school.
Looks like there is not much money for NUIN applicants. Perhaps many accepted were based on ability to pay. Northeastern like most colleges is not worth full price.

I don’t think we could have swung the finances on this anyway but it would have been nice to get in. He has accepted the waitlist. You never know. Accepted to UCONN (no scholarship), UNH (instate $1,500 dean’s scholarship), U Maine (Honors & $15,000 scholarship). Waiting on UMass Amherst. Thinking we should have applied to more private schools but too late now
I hope my post can help and encourage some of You guys out there that there is always a chance.
Got accepted today by Northeastern University to the school of business to study marketing
SAT: 1730 ( CR:600, Maths:620, Writing: 510 )
A level Grades: C for economics, D for Business ( ridiculously bad, I know. Honestly I am quite afraid of my offer getting rescinded ).
Extracurriculur activies: National tennis team player for my country, Soccer captain of my school. Some good fundraising and charity work in poor countries.
Hooks: Maybe because I am a mix Chinese german who has lived in countries in Asia and Europe gave me a diverse ethnicity edge. Also speak four languages fluently.
On the other hand, I got rejected by Babson few days ago, which just makes me wonder how the admissions process over there in the US works. But I’m not complaining
And just because I’m desperate for an answer and no one has replied to my thread I’ll just carry it over to here and I beg one of you to answer me as I am desperate and very worried
Hello, recently I have been accepted into Northeastern University which came as a huge surprise to me as it was really a University that I considered practically impossible to get admitted into with my grades. It says in the terms and conditions that a University has the right to rescind the offer of admission in the future and I have a few worries. Okay, here is the predicament I am having. I applied to the University with two predicted A level grades to go with my SAT scores as I am studying in a British School. I had predicted grades of B in both business and Economics but however in my As exams I only managed to get a C for economics and a D for Business. This doesn’t set me up well for my A2 exams at it will be much harder to just mantain those grades let alone improve them. Therefore do you think there is any chance they might rescind their offer if my final grades were a C and a D after I had made my deposits and finalised all the visa’s and classes and schedules. ( My A2 grades come out around the same time I should be starting my University term ). I am extremely worried about this and it would be great if someone could tell me whether that is likely to happen. Thank you
