Writing (Subject, 1-10 rating, details):

Essays: 7? Im not sure, I compared my life to an Eulerian graph, and basically talked about limits to my life; I liked the parallel image of my life and a graph, but can’t be really objective on this, I submitted it so clearly means that I liked it haha

Teacher Recommendation #1:5? super generic. but since he was my art teacher, and I was applying for arts it made sense for him to send it? I thought it was very generic, but it’s just my humble opinion
Teacher Recommendation #2: Didn’t read it bus assume it was an 8? He was my honors chemistry teacher
Counselor Rec: Generic, can’t even rate it He writes the same thing for every single student.
Additional Info/Rec: My mom was diagnosed with cancer so I put is as the reason why I missed 30% of school (still maintained straight As), also kind of explains smy low sat scores
Interview: didn’t have
Art Supplement: pretty confident in my art

**Other Factors: **

General Comments & Advice: I’m not sure if NU is hollistic. I want to believe that my circumstances explained my low sat scores? Also, If i get a B+ in my calc class at penn, a 650 on my math sat shouldn’t be an indicator of whether I know math or not lol. I applied for architecture. I would suggest those who are applying for competitive majors but don’t have super strong test scores: apply for a different major. pick the least competitive major there is that kind of suits your resume. Once you’re in you can switch, but you need to be in first! (I wish someone told me that before I submitted my app!)

not to be salty but i think neu are too focused on standardize test scores, i don’t believe they holistically review apps

@airfire1928 I agree but I don’t blame them with over 50k applications. How realistic is for them to all be reviewed holistically? I think the smaller schools can do this.

@airfire1928 Honestly, in my case I think it was a good holistic review. My gpa (weighted) is a 4.0, and my ACT super scored is only a 30, which is generally low for northeastern.

@alli3fire that’s true haha
@castlehes oh congrats!!! maybe im just salty that i didn’t get in haha

@airfire1928 In my case, I got a terrible 3.45 uw gpa as an Asian international (Northeastern doesn’t review international students’ Standardized Test. I scored a 1480 New SAT tho)

So it’s pretty much just my gpa with my activities/essay that helped me in. I think it’s holistic.

So excited I got accepted!! In all honesty, congrats to everyone who got in, and my condolences for all those who were waitlisted/rejected. It is a grueling process for all and just always keep your head up. Does anyone know the statistics for accepted, waitlisted, rejected, applicant, etc? I’m just curious. Thanks!

@allallj ah see I had a good gpa but a average act score! I really thought my essay would get me in but I guess not haha

@airfire1928 No worries  many decisions still haven’t been released and you definitely have a shot on those. What are other schools you applied to? I’m waiting for NYU.

[ b]Reflection**

Strengths: IB?, also someone from my school was accepted EA
Weaknesses: SAT scores, not as many extra curricular apart from volunteering as most people tend to apply and go to Britain where it is not held in such a position of importance
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I have no idea, wasn’t expecting this but so thankful!
What would you have done differently?: Got better SAT scores
Where else did you apply?: Waiting for: Barnard, USC, NYU, BU, AU, UCLA, UCB, UCI, UCSB,
Accepted to: SCU, UCD, LMU

@allallj I’m waiting on NYU and Boston University!!

Got accepted to the abroad program!!!

I’m from California and here were my stats:
ACT: 28 (29 Eng. 33 Math, 24 Reading 24 Science 24 Writing)
GPA: 3.7 unweighted, 3.95 weighted
EC: Ive been working for two years, did varsity sports frosh/soph years, not much volunteer, summer camp counselor two years
Other things: Jewish, White, Male, Gay (but didn’t put that on my app because I solely want to be judged by my worth in other areas and not by my sexuality as well as other things), low income, had family attend Northeastern I go to a highly acclaimed high school in San Diego, Essay was not the greatest considering I edited it some more before I applied to other schools.

I honestly think the reason I got in was because I put down I was willing to go abroad because it broadened (pun intended) my chances for flexibility. Congratulations to everyone that got in and my condolences to whoever got rejected. Always remember that there are thousands of people vying for a limited amount of spots so its not that you aren’t what they were looking for, its that there weren’t enough spots.

Other schools I applied to: UCLA, UCSB, UCSC, UCD, UC Berkeley, Boston, NYU, Tulane, Syracuse, Boulder, and Michigan

S got accepted to business. 3.95 u and 4.2 w, 7ap, 2160 old sat, amazing leadership and ec. Offered 10k sophomore year… based on cost and other acceptances, NE is off the table. Good luck to all.

Got accepted into the abroad program! just curious anyone know how many people get admitted into N.U.in?

i got admitted to the program too

Decision: Accepted to D’Amore-McKim School of Business
SAT: 2220 (700 CR, 720 M, 800 W)
SAT II (subject, score): Didn’t send them in with my app, didn’t need them
GPA: 3.33 uw, 4.0 w
Rank: N/A
AP (place score in parentheses): AP Lang(4), AP Chinese (3), AP World History (5), AP Environmental Science (3), AP US History (4), AP Calculus (3)
Senior Year Course Load: Finite Math (Very shallow intro to different types of math) + Statistics (Semester); AP Lit, AP Psych, AP Comp Sci, Physics, a religion class (Catholic school) - quite easy with some AP’s still, first sem grades were decent
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel, etc.): N/A
Common Awards (AP Scholar, honor roll, NM things, etc.): AP Scholar with distinction, our school version of an honor roll, NHS, CSF, President’s Volunteer Service Award

Subjective:

Extracurriculars: Very spread out over different interests: Japan Club (President, VP, Publicist), NHS (Treasurer); ASB Homeroom Rep (1 year); TASC Service (our school’s leadership for social justice…Catholic school things); Assistant Stage Manager (+tech theatre for 3 years); Track&Field (Varsity, 4 years); Basketball (1 year, frosh team); Cross-Country (JV, 1 year); Robotics (2 years); probably some other stuff I’m forgetting
Volunteer/Community Service: Volunteered as a TA at my Chinese school (3 years, that’s where I got PVSA)
Summer Experience: None really, did some volunteering at a kids math place

Essays: Not too sure but the grammar/vocab was pretty good?
Teacher Recs: Not sure, not super close w/ my teachers
Counselor Rec: Not sure, don’t really know my counselors well plus our admissions counselor is good at talking but very generically
Interview: nope

U.S. State/Territory or Country: OOS - California
School Type: Private Catholic school
Ethnicity: Chinese/Taiwanese
Gender: F

Comments: I thank NE for looking over my pretty bad GPA, I do think they review holistically because they looked at my SAT’s and extracurriculars too; I definitely think my wide range of extracurriculars and sheer amount of them helped

@airfire1928 me too!

“we received more than 54,000 applications for an incoming class of only 2,800 and are unable to offer admission to many well-qualified applicants due to space limitations.”

So if they accept about 28% —> 15,120 acceptances. Their yield is about 19% —> class size of about 2873.

S got waitlisted… 3.65 uw/4.0 wtd; 1390 new SAT. Lots of ECs & sports & leadership.

He’s not super upset, I think pride is wounded b/c he thought he had a good shot, but it’s not a top choice (he really liked it in 11th gr, but other schools, including one he is already in at, had already surpassed it). 2 of his classmates who really want to go to NU got in, so he’s happy he didn’t take a spot from one of them.

Good luck – reading the stats, applicants to NU are going to do great no matter where they go!

I cant wait to hear back from the other schools, but things aren’t looking too good for me.
