***Official Northeastern University Class of 2021 Regular Decision Applicants Results ONLY***

Just found this site today. D was admitted to the NU in program, even though she stated on app that she was not interested in it. No decisions made yet. Her stats: 2070 old SAT (730 R, 630 M, 710 W), 4.4/4.0 weighted GPA, 8 APs, 5 honors classes; AP Scholar with Honor Award; plans to be art/English double major; regional art and regional writing awards, Editor-in-chief of lit mag and president of art club. Found the statistics for other students very interesting. Can someone tell me if SAT scores reported are generally the new SAT? We accelerated the schedule because she preferred the old SAT. After reading the posts, I’m guessing her scores were not high enough to be admitted to Boston in the fall. I prefer that to the idea that her portfolio was not as good as it needed to be.

@jandal
This year is the only year that both the old and new SATs are accepted. For next year’s applicants, colleges will only be taking the new SAT score. The old vs new SAT scores don’t have a bearing on admittance so I think there was a mixture of old and new scores that were reported.

Boston’s website says that the average SAT score of admitted students was 1452. Your daughter’s 2070 would be somewhere within the 1440-1450 range of the new SAT. I am sure that she was competitive enough for Boston given her high gpa and being close to the average accepted SAT score. Sometimes it’s just luck on who is reading her application and how happy he/she was before they started reading it. (I got rejected too) I’m sure your daughter will be happy wherever she ends up going! :slight_smile:

thanks. She was also admitted to Boston Univ., but there she has a straight admittance to the Boston campus in the fall whereas as NU she would have to go abroad first semester. Still waiting to hear from some schools.

@jandal NU really cares about test scores. My son has a similar ACT score 32 , and several of his friends did too. They were all offered NU In. The only kid that got direct admit to Boston was a kid with a similar score but applied ED. He got in but had to back out of ED agreement because they did not give him enough aid so that he could afford to attend. So, I know of at least 6 kids in our school that got in, and none will be on campus in the fall. 3 of them plan to attend NU In, the others are thinking about it.
In my son’s case, I think his test scores were fine, his ECs decent, no fin aid needed, etc. but his class rank was not in the top and I think that NU cares about stats, stats, stats. So that’s why the offer of NU In. My son was actually happy about the opportunity though, he looked at it as a positive. He has already enrolled.

@jandal Similar situation for my S. Admitted to BU (Questrom)…now we are pushing at financial aid. Admitted NU In We are in suburban Boston…the only kids that he knows who got into NU without going abroad were two early decision kids with knockout grades and scores (3.8 uw and 1500+ SAT). This seems to be a similar patter at schools around Boston this year.

@SwimmingDad we are suburban Boston people too. The kids I speak of attend a decent public high school in the burbs and normally a decent number of kids get into NEU every year. I think it will be less this year. I also think fewer will take them up on their offer. I think the Boston area schools are being swamped with excessive applications making it harder and harder for local kids to get outright accepted. Lots of waitllists, spring admits, overseas options etc. It seems at our school you do not have a very good shot at any of the schools like BU, Northeastern, Babson without a 32 ACT 3.8UW and up.

Ok back on topic… after you enroll and pay your deposit does NU send you another packet with info/swag etc?

We are in NJ, and D would not have applied ED because she wanted more time to work on the portfolio. We were all just surprised that she got this program when she noted on app that she did not want it. We’re still waiting to hear from some schools, but honestly I don’t see her accepting NEU with this condition. She would have preferred the waiting list.
