[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: stressed diabetes, passion for learning, work ethic, quality > quantity
[] Weaknesses: lack of big awards? IDK
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I am not a typical nerd. I play sports, I like to go out, I like to hang out with my friends and blow off homework some nights. I ENJOYED high school. To me, high school was not about getting into a good college but pursuing the things that I loved.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted: USC (scholarship consideration), university of illinois, UCLA (likely letter)
Rejected: Stanford EA

[/ul]General Comments: Have to hear from other schools. Was not expecting an acceptance, but I will gladly take it! This will only make my final decision harder. FA will be a big factor, but it will be hard to say no to NU.

Decision: Accepted (posting for my son)

Objective:
SAT I (Composite): 2380 (800 800 780)

State (if domestic applicant): CA
Country (if international applicant): N/A
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: Indian American
Gender: M
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None other than research and leadership. Had legacy at NU - dad went to Kellogg.

Reflection
Strengths: Research at NASA, scores/stats, leadership, essays, diverse interests.

Weaknesses: Class decile rank. The high school has 50 national merit finalists and ~ 100 kids getting 2,300+ on SAT and over 75 kids getting 3.94+ on unweighted GPA. It was very very difficult to stand out from this crowd which is super competitive. But they all are very well prepared for college.

Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: See strengths above.

Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected:
Accepted: UC Berkeley (EECS - regents candidate - waiting for regents), UIUC, UCSD & other UC’s
Waitlisted: CalTech
Deferred: Princeton
Rejected: MIT

General Comments: NU would be one of our top choices but we still need to wait for the rest of the landscape to get cleared.

[] Gender: Male
[] Income Bracket(specify if applied for FA): Above FA
[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None
[/li]

[/ul][ b]Reflection**[ul]
[] Strengths: ECs
[] Weaknesses: SAT scores, showed no interest
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Frankly, I don’t know. Going through these threads, there are lots of decisions that I wouldn’t have expected to happen – and yet they happened anyway (I don’t mean to devalue the accomplishments of all of those who got in – I’m sure every single one of you deserve it). The applicant pool is just so strong. I think it may have hurt that I showed no interest, but oh well. Life goes on, even though it stings a bit.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected:
Accepted: WUSTL
Rejected: Stanford (EA)

[/ul]General Comments:

As I said above, it stings a bit, but I was leaning towards WUSTL anyways. Congrats to all of you who got in!

** Decision: Accepted**

College and Program:McCormick (Electrical Engg)

**Objective: **[ul]

[] SAT I (breakdown): 2230 Superscore. (M-800, W-730, R-700)
[] ACT: N/A
[] SAT II: Math II - 780, Phy - 760
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): Indian system ( Average 85%, 10th ICSE - 94%)
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): top 5% varying.
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): None. Will take them now.
[] IB (place score in parenthesis): N/A
[] Senior Year Course Load: Toughest possible.
[li] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Harvard MUN India maybe?(Outstanding Delegate)
[/li]

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Football, Basketball, Debates, Science fairs, Photography, MUN conferences, Cricket, Writing, etc. Nothing spectacular. But a LOT of dedication to each activity and minor success in all of them.
[] Job/Work Experience: None
[] Volunteer/Community service: National Cadet Corps(2yrs), National Service Scheme(2yrs) [ India ]
[li] Summer Activities: See ECs.[/li][] Essays: Northwestern supplement showed that I researched about the school; spoke about it’s EWB chapter in depth. Nowhere near brilliant. Commonapp essay - I liked it. Expressed my views strongly(on Environmental degradation). But again, not written well.
[] Teacher Recommendation: Submitted 1 from physics teacher. More personal than generic.
[] Counselor Rec: Again - more personal than generic. It wasn’t glowing with superlatives though.
[] Additional Rec: None
[] Interview: Only one contact in Mumbai, India - which is miles away from where I live. Requested a skype interview. Request was denied.
[li] Supplementary Material(if any): Abstract of an engineering idea. Not researched upon, just the theoretical brief.
[/li]

[/ul]Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant):
[] Country (if international applicant): India
[] School Type: Private, non-feeder school. Reputed though.
[] Ethnicity: Indian
[] Gender: Male
[] Income Bracket(specify if applied for FA): Medium? Applied for aid [Haven’t yet received the package, but need at least 25k USD per year.)
[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None. Anti -hook of being an Indian male with generic ECs asking ~50% aid.
[/li]

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Really dunno. Well rounded perhaps - juggled sports, academics and other pursuits throughout high school. But who doesn’t nowadays??
[] Weaknesses: mid 50percentile SAT, school marks are nothing compared to those of the “Indian Nerds”, no “Unique” point.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: See “Strengths”. Also maybe, just maybe that engineering abstract worked!
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted to Drexel, UIUC and now Northwestern. Waitlisted at Case Western Reserve University(this was depressing news). Rejected at none till now. But expecting 5 of them next week on Ivy day.

[/ul]General Comments: Miracles do happen!!
I was expecting a rejection, especially after I found out that NU has a pretty stringent aid policy for Internationals and the fact that I’m just an average applicant - makes this acceptance all the more WONDERFUL. Congrats to all those accepted and hold on to all those wait listed. To those rejected, don’t worry - there are many awesome colleges out there and just like NU felt that I’d fit in, you guys will fit in someplace else!!

To all those future International applicants looking for aid - HOLD ON TO YOUR DREAMS. If I can receive aid at a top university, anyone can!! Haha!! :D

Congratulations rishav17.

@NorthwesternDad - Thanks! Your advice helped me!! :)

@rishav17, Not me…there is someone out there who decides!!!
