***Official Northwestern Class of 2018 ED Discussion***

Hi everyone. I’m new here. I have a little question. Does Northwestern University expect higher ACT score, higher grades, etc.? My parents have been telling me that a lot of colleges accept asian applicants with high ACT scores, high GPA, etc.

@JuicyDumpling yeah they are! they could also come out on the 15th, but that’s less likely because it’s a Sunday. But Northwestern has released them on Saturdays and Sundays in the past so it could still happen. i’m thinking that they will probably be released on the 13th

Same here. Friday is the start of vacation for Northwestern University. I don’t want them to release it on Saturday or Sunday because that’s where all the other schools are releasing their decision >_<

@coolman1343 Northwestern is a competitive school so of course high test scores and grades will only increase your chances for admission. But that is not to say if your test scores and grades are below standards you will be automatically rejected lol

NU student here. You guys should expect decisions the last Friday of the quarter, which is this coming Friday. Almost everybody will receive his decision on the same day, though it’s likely some may get the email at 5pm CST whereas others may not receive it until 9 or 10. I remember last year people started getting the email at 5pm - I was at a conference at a library that evening and hadn’t even realized until I got out of the event that it was decision day for NU. I checked my email from my phone in the library parking lot and the timestamp was about 7:35pm, 2 and a half hours after decisions started coming out. This is just to say, don’t have a panic attack if your email doesn’t come at 5pm. You should only be mildly concerned if you don’t receive the email the same day.

@JuicyDumpling that’s right!!

How did you guys think you did on the supplement essay? I thought it was really hard to fit everything in 250 words =\ Didn’t it use to be like 500 words or something?

I was so paranoid about the supplement. I ended up making mine 350 words. It was a single page, and someone on here said the office of admission said to make it however long you want, the 250 word recommendation was just a guide. I’m very happy with my supplement essay. I just hope the admissions officer who reads it likes it too!

Gee, I hope I did well. I focused on the big, the small, and the obvious things when talking about what I liked about NU.

Being a legacy, my obvious mark was talking about the stories my mom told me about her time there. However, I also wrote about dance marathon and the neighborhood project that the Medill kids have to do. I really proved that I did my research by mentioning a few, though very obscure, classes that I wanted to take if admitted.

I also tried to avoid the cliche kisses of death like, “Oh. I love Chicago/ Evanston.”

Combined with my common app essay, which focused on my experience riding the handicapped bus all throughout elementary school, I think that my supp. will be a huge contributor to my acceptance. (If I’m blessed enough to be accepted.)

P.S Sorry for talking so much but I’d just like to thank you guys for stressing out with me. All of my friends think that I’m going crazy over this admission, but as sick as it sounds, it does my heart good to know that there are others out there who feel the same distress.

Wow, that sucks for me since I had to try so hard to cut my essay down to 250 words and I think cutting so much from my original essay made it worse =( Didn’t know they were actually pretty lax about the length.

@JuicyDumpling
Keep hope. Cutting can be helpful because being concise is most important. It always helps to avoid meandering language so I’m sure your supp. is fine.

@afroalabama Thanks! Just curious, were you able to write about all those things you mentioned within the 250 word limit for the supplement?

@Juicy
Hey, no problem! Everything is included except for the handicapped-bus-riding-thing. (That went into my big essay.) My supp. is exactly 250 words. C:

@JuicyDumpling
I’m sure your supplement is fantastic! As everyone else has said, there’s nothing any of us can do now anyway. All we can do is wait. We’ll all end up where we belong, even if that “where” is not NU.

@cocoa546
The comment you made yesterday helped me out so much! I honestly can’t imagine myself anywhere but at NU. However, your comment made me realize that I need to not only be prepared for rejection, but also be ok with it. :slight_smile: I think that failure is a part of life, and sooner or later I think I will be able to move on from a rejection. I’m soooo nervous!! All the best to everyone!

Ahh when do you guys think decisions will be out? I think tomorrow is probably the earliest possible day that they could be released judging from old results thread. It’ll probably be between the 8th (tomorrow) and the 14th

I think they’ll be out the 13th. The 12th at the earliest, but that’s just my guess.

Most likely the 13th. AHH good luck everyone!

Read last year’s thread-they got decisions on the 13th Thursday. So probably 12th for us this year?

sorry to backtrack but the essay had to be around 250 words? mine definitely was much longer…
