@ggal28 ha i wrote about how having “imaginary friends” is unacceptable as an adult except if you’re a writer because then you can call them “characters.” I don’t think it was my best but i tried to make it confessional and honest. Honestly I really liked my essays when I wrote them but the more I think about it the more I doubt them lol
@goblue8721 aw you as well! Good luck! I live in NC so Davidson was a short distance away, it’s such a warm and pretty school!
Honestly looking back on my essays I don’t like them as much as my essays for other schools. But they deferred me early so I’m still holding out hope. I raised my gpa a lot last semester and got my sat up to a 1500/1600, hopefully that will be enough. But if not then I guess I’m going to BC! It’s all in His plan y’all, stay strong!
oh my gosh same!!! I keep obsessing over them. Honestly, the more I think about it, the less I think I’m going to get in. I have good grades and test scores that are about average for Notre Dame, but I don’t think I really have any hooks, and like I said, I don’t know about my essays. For the “talk about your home” one, I wrote about my Girl Scout troop, but the “why notre dame?” one is the one I think I could’ve done so much better on. How do I limit my love for notre dame to 200 words?! Lol rn I’m praying my teacher rec was good enough, but if I don’t get in, it’s not the end of the world. I’ve kind of accepted it already haha
I did the exact same prompts! For “talk about home” i talked about my bookshelf being my solace since i moved around a lot as a kid and i always took my books with me everywhere haha. I wish i had done better with the “why notre dame” prompt. i really focused on how much the spiritual aspect and community meant to me but i’m not sure if that’s what i was supposed to do, because i know some people get really specific in talking about why they want to attend but mine was more idealistic. It’s out of my hands now either way. If i don’t get into ND or Georgetown I’ll be attending unc chapel hill, which i’m pretty excited about although ND is the dream of course
that’s exactly how I feel about my “why notre dame” essay! I looked at it again and was like “whoa buddy why didn’t you mention specifics why so general my dude” but I guess it’s out of my hands now…My favorite college if I don’t get in is probably Penn State because I’ve already gotten in and I love it, but Notre Dame is the dream. Everything goes the way it’s supposed to, I guess, so if it’s a no from Notre Dame, that’s God’s plan! Wish His plan was for a “yes” tho!!!
For the “why ND” talked about the history between ND and Navy because of the NROTC program, the positive influence on brother, and dorm life and that each dorm has its own chapel for worship together. For “home” talked about family and traditions and support system. For “first impressions” talked about outgoing personalities and how that carries responsibility to lead by example. Reread several times today…still feel good about them…just hope it’s enough to make an impression. AP Lit teacher proofed all of them including common ap essay. Also emailed admissions counselor a couple times to add to application and why ND means so much.
Agree with everyone else. You are all super bada**. Encouraging, friendly, positive, upbeat. Thanks for that.
As for essay talk, I poured my heart and soul into my essays. And my risk was definitely risky. We will see how it pans out. However my test scores are so low for nd. Gpa too. screw stats, promote passion haha
Yeah, I asked my teacher to tailor the letter for Notre Dame and to make it clear that ND was my number one…He asks me about ND all the time so I hope it worked! And on a different note, I really don’t know what I’m gonna do when admissions come out I’m soooo stressed hahaha
I’ve pretty much come to accept that it will be a no from ND and Gtown, but I’m still waiting to hear back from william and mary. And remember guys, rankings and acceptance rates aren’t everything. I fully believe that all of us can be just as happy at another school as our top choices. Lets remember to be open to the future!
ACT score low for ND standards…32
GPA high…class rank high…9 AP and 9 honors classes…2 leadership classes…hoping EC and essays make up for ACT. Not giving much weight to LOR since you can’t read them anyway and teachers and guidance counselors are bombarded with requests this time of year.
Just anxious to know but at same time afraid to look at portal once available.
I think I worked all of my supplements well to include specifics about Notre dame. My why nd one talked about when I first saw the campus dropping my sister off when I was in 6th grade. I talked about the community I have seen them grow up in and how supportive everyone was. I was really proud with how all mine turned out. My take a risk one talked about me applying to Notre dame actually because it’s where my sisters went and how I had been following in their footsteps for 18 years. I talked about how I would embrace the experience and make it uniquely my own, not just follow in my sisters’ path. I am a little worried about my letter of recs. I read both of them and they honestly weren’t amazing to me but that might just be how all letters are?? I was kind of disappointed though because I felt they could have talked about my character and personality more, but they just seemed generic. They were from two of the best teachers at my school too so I didn’t really know what was up. Good luck, everyone!!
i did the “take a risk” prompt and used the board game risk as a metaphor for life. for the civil rights essay i talked about discrimination against kids with disabilities in my high school. last but not least, my why notre dame essay was pretty generic. i mostly talked about how the purpose of a higher education is to use it to serve others and connected it to notre dame’s mission.
just a question, are most people in this thread catholic? im just curious.
My civil rights essay, i talked about why i wanted to go into business! Because success can be judged quantitatively so it is easier to be objective and not judge people based on prejudice! I loved the ND prompts
@batmanjohn not catholic, I’m actually from a Hindu family! I grew up with a lot of multi-religious influence though, and I consider myself a spiritual person which i think ND definitely fosters no matter which religion you come from
