Does anyone know why there is no Greek life at Notre Dame? Do research before you join group me. Be amazing and be happy
@nitro11 while I cannot for sure answer your question I think it’s basically because of how bad an image some sororities and fraternities have. It also allows for a lot of kids to get left out and causes stress with rushing (one of my friends rushed at LSU and then didn’t get in when all her friends did. She was heartbroken) I actually really like that nd doesn’t have Greek life because it keeps kids more grouped together and gives you a community (your dorm) the day you walk in it the first time.
@nitro11 because its catholic? i think thats the reason, i know thats why jesuits don’t have them
could tomorrow at 6:42 EST be the time and date???
@NewJerseyCaptain no one knows, but is my guess. If not Monday. I have no source, but an educational guess
The reason for no Greek Life is no secret society.
I could go more into it, but that’s the basis of it.
Just know we are amazing people and we will be better just haven’t decided where
I really hope it’s tomorrow, and I really really hope to get in. The anticipation is killing me!!!
Hi everyone Just joined, but I thought I’d say like some others that you are all hilarious and supportive. Notre Dame is also my #1 like most of us so I hope we get in this week!
As for my essays (in response to someone from earlier), I did do the “take a risk” prompt. I described this novel I’m writing about someone I know in real life. It’s supposed to be this boyish comedy and tragedy between two boys from Compton getting into trouble lol. It might also have some mystical feeling to it, not sure yet. I hope they like the idea; I’d really like some professor’s help writing it since I’ll be majoring engineering, not English. Anyways, hopefully we all get a response tomorrow!
@Samma124 thats such a good idea and a really creative topic I’m sure they liked it!
@a20171 Aw thanks! It means a lot to me and to the person one of the boys is based upon. It was actually inspired by this novel I read over the summer for AP Lit called “The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao.” I loved the narrative and diction styles.
@acanil I wrote about my pet turtle named Leonardo and how he always throws himself from the rock to the water and how that has shown me how to take risks. I got in apparently cuz Im doing HISE
Happy (possible) dooms day everyone!!
TODAY PLEASE!!! :-S
freaking out today!!!
My son got a likely letter with the HISE invitation yesterday, along with the HISE invite. He’s excited! ND very high on his list… only ones higher on his list are the Ivies. If anyone has been to this, please post about it or send me to the post, because he’d have to miss a week of school to attend, and he has 4 AP Classes.
Folks this is my third kid going through this process. I have to say you all are the funniest of all of the groups I’ve tracked on CC and theres some funny stuff on here.
But just CHILLAX.
Whereever you go, you’ll do fine. It’s not the school it’s the kid.
And you all are great. Just being on here, says that you CARE about your education and that you are willing to put the EFFORT in to your future.
I agree the ND admissions people would love to know who you are just to give you all the extra edge.
My kid doesn’t get on here, it makes him too nervous… Says it “triggers him”. LOL but he does appreciate it that I’m on and sometimes asks me to sneak a peek to see what going on…
Best of luck. I’m confident that every single person on this thread, if they give the level of effort and caring exemplified here for their college years and later their work years, will be big time successful.
I haven’t been following this thread religiously so wanted to know what made you guys think Notre Dame would come today? Just want to know if this based on any kind of historic pattern, non-official information or just plain speculation.
@cashme just hopeful I guess. REA portal email came out 5 days before decisions were posted. Since the email went out this past Monday 5 days would be Saturday and most people say they won’t post on St. Patrick’s Day, so I think everyone is hoping for today instead of Monday. Admitted student days start 3/26.
@cashme People in the discussion have been noting that Notre dame tends to release around the 18th each year and usually on a Friday. However with Saint Patrick’s on Friday and Notre Dame being Catholic and enthusiastic towards the Irish, people believe they won’t send acceptances on that day and either send today or on Monday. It’s based on patterns of historical data and upon the respect of a holiday.
But, the dining hall (only South is open during break) is not serving meat (i.e. corned beef) on St Patrick’s Day. So much for the Irish/St. Patrick’s Day connection. (Cafe de Grasta is having corned beef, but they only serve through lunch).
That’s because no meat on Friday’s during lent maybe?
