Official Nov. Math IIC Thread

defnitely E (99th+ eprcentile), but i put D (95 - 99th percentile).. so sucks to be me.

use graphing calc, 1 - binom(84, 120, 74, 2) = 0.999999

I thought I compromised my credibility enough with the intersection question;
now a stupid mistake with the 42deg-6-4 triangle question aggravates my crime of misleading.

Sorry, I was cryptic in posting the question. The side 6 was adjacent to 42 deg angle and the side 4 was opposite. That's impossible.

Of course qnoob, you were correct.
Since the side adjacent to 42 deg angle is 6, the height of the triangle is 6*sin(42) = 4.01. I got it right so far, but I then came to the wrong conclusion (2 triangles).
The side opposite to the 42 deg angle can not be 4: it should be greater than the height 4.01.
The answer: no triangles.

qnoob, ColdEggNog, and everybody else who used the law of sines got it right without a hitch.

I can't post the questions, and I already got two incorrect answers.
Here's the deal: you start the thread with answers only and I'll join it.
evading responsibility :)

the percentile one was so obvious if you knew statistics. just to the right of 3 standard deviations from the mean will be the 99.7 percentile.

GAH. That was a bad test for me. Here's hoping to a generous curve...

expecting 800 anyone?

Well, I'm down 2 for sure. Maybe -4 at max and I omitted 3 questions, 1 one which I realized later I forgot to type a 0 in the calculator so the calculations came out incorrect each time ... -_-.

Dude, Asians sure are freakin freakin fast at math. The guy beside me had a normal casio scientific calculator and he finished the test 30 minutes early. I guess he rechecked his whole test and then went to sleep for 10 minutes. The guy in front of me was like that too... well, so was 70% of the people in there lol!!! I guess I'm not worthy of being an Asian.

I have never seen so many Asian people together in my life before today lol (I live in St. Louis where there aren't many test centers for SAT).

I am expecting an 800. That test was mad easy.

Im expecting an 800.

I left 3 blank. I may have gotten 2 wrong max.

50 was really simple if you used z-scores

z = (actual - mean) / (standard deviation)

z = (84-74) / 2 = 5

anyone with a stats background knows a z-score of 5 is extremely high, so 99%+ is the only choice there.

i never thought stats would pay off - that class was a joke. lol

or u could just use the empirical rule

I'm expecting 800. I omitted the last question because I had no clue, and I probably got a few wrong. This will definitely make up for my 700 on the Math SAT I.

yea i'm expecting a 800 too. so far i've got 2 or 3 wrong and don't know if more wrongs pop up. can't wait for nov 22.

are u sure Nov22 is when the scores come out

i think its nov 20th

Yea its Nov. 20th. I answered 49 questions and max got 2 wrong.

I think I only answered 35, GOD i hate math

Oh god, I'm like retarded compared to you guys.

I skipped four and like randomly guessed 6 since I am OCD and hate leaving too many things blank.

I'd be lucky to have 750 =( Guess I'm redoing in Dec.

Some people were saying the curve on this might be harsh because it was easier, so if I omitted 8 and missed 4-5, what score do you think I would get?
