Official October 21, 2006 PSAT Discussion

it was IS a philosopher not WAS a philosopher which is why WERE was incorrect

Lol Assassin. The PSAT/this discussion is actually kind of fun, but it would be more fun if there was no stress about scoring high.

if that was the question then it was , was. I didn't read the whole question, I just stopped after the first underline
Oh well, one wrong is still an 80 :D

You probably over"thought" that question about Aristotle. Why would the word "taught" make that sentence illogical or grammatically incorrect? After all, Aristotle was the tutor of none other than Alexander the Great.

As for the correct answer, I agree with snowia that it is choice D. There is an error with tense ("was" should be "is," or something like that).

Hey, what does the author of the first passage want to be like? ("hiker", "many people", "two men", "bandit", something else)

Snowia, i could not agree with you more. If we could take standardized tests for fun and for our GPAs I'd be all over that a fat man over a cupcake. But alas, i am asian, and indian no less. So that means either perfect score of crucifiction

Naidu, is 1 wrong in writing defininitely an 80 b/c i think i only got 1 wrong but like 3/4 reading 1 math and the NY cutoff is really high (221).

yes, according to last year's curve, one wrong is an 80

and the passage one, it was definately two men

for the (x+y)(x^2-y^2)=0 wouldn't it be

x=-y because if x=-y, then x+y=0

and x^2-y^2, x can be both negative or positive, so if x=5 and y=-5, then it's still 25-25=0, making x^2-y^2=0

Hey guys, is someone going to compile a list of answers like andreaaaa had done for the Oct. 18 PSAT? Because the answers are all scattered out right now. Man, are we obessed people with the PSAT. lol.

yes i got 2 men also because they were brave enough to actually go hiking/camping which the guy was scared to do b/c of the stories he heard.

(x+y)(x^2-y^2)=0
simplifies to (x+y)(x-y)(x+y)=0
So x=+y or -y are the roots. In either case, x^2=y^2 so this must be true.

it was (x-y)(x+y)(x-y) so it had to be x^2=y^2 b/c either x-y=0 (x=y) or x+y=0 (x=-y).

wat was the answer to the question with the shaded rectangles?

Well, I don't want to make a list, b/c i'll end up comitting suicide after seeing how many I got wrong.

I know its wrong, but I put down "many people" instead of two men b/c the author wasn't fit and is afraid of the outdoors. But now I realize its who he wanted to be....even if he doest end up like that in the end. Grrrr that x^2+y^2 was absolute crap

x^2 + xy (10 char)

We should systematically list every question on the Oct. 21 PSAT and then discuss them one by one in an organized way. However, I have to abandon nerd paradise for several minutes while I walk my dog. Good luck, though!

bye people, i am sick of seeing which answers I got right/wrong.
So far, these are my scores.
Math: 74
CR: 73 -> after what you guys said
W: still 80

227

did u guys get 3(X+Y)=10(X)+Y for one of the questions

yeah MNOAAA thats what i got. first i put 3(x+y) = x+y but i changed it to the right answer in the end (phew!)
