Official October 24th ACT Question Discussion

akvk66-yep

The one with the cups of punch, for a while i thought they didn’t give enough information because they didn’t tell you how many cups of punch 3 cups of juice and 5 cups of water made…but i went with 30 just because that one made sense.
What did you guys get for the science question that asked about potential energy of the wire?

I thought the ACT was meh. The math was okay, the english okay, the reading easy, and the science was INSANE. I had to rush at the end…

Math Questions:

The one with the reflection F and the rectangle/intersection…was it the same height of the rectangle, 15? I had no idea for that one.

The one on the sin x>0 and cos x> 0 and sin x> 1/2 cos x…was that tan x>2? I just rearranged it and all, but because of those limitations I’m not sure.

The last one- the one with sqrt(r/s) + sqrt(s/r)…was it the last choice? I’m not sure what the choice exactly was, but I do remember that r+s was at the top…

Science:

What was the percentage of the frogs question answer?

What was the answer to the potential energy of the wire question? Did it decrease? I put increase but I had no idea…something with the angle decreasing, right?

English:

WHO/WHOM! For the one that was talking about Monopoly- “…burden of the middle class, ____ were …” was it whom? I put was at first, and then I spotted the “were” instead of “was” (shouldn’t it be was, because it was talking about the middle class, which is a singular noun?) and put in “whom were” and “who were” sounds weird…but i think it was F (leave it be) but I had four A/F’s in a row lol.

Can anyone explain to me when to use who/whom?

Thanks in advance! Let’s hope we all do well!

akv6- it was the same amount. they both resulted in the same amount of mileage. :D

wolf, the sqrt question answer was 1. since sqrt(r/s) is equal to sqrt(r)/sqrt(s) you just added them them and i’m pretty sure it was 1? not really sure…

Is it just me, or was the math ridiculously hard while the science was ridiculously easy?

also, wolf, the potential energy of the wire increased because as it went around the wire twisted more and more. soo it has all that energy to untwist itself.

did others get the angle is 8-11? i put that at first, but changed it to greater than 11, damnit, also i put PE increased as well, and one of the answers was acidic cus the PH was lower, and i put metamorphosis, and something about ch4 getting released into the atmosphere

I got 8-11. I put potential energy increased because of the twisting, i put metamorphosis, and i also put that ch4 was released into the atmosphere for one.

Just on the basis of the science question (detailing metamorphism, erosion, weathering, etc.), it was definitely metamorphism.

What about the who/whom one with the monopoly passage?

DAMMIT I’ve never made juice. I assumed the concentrated stuff would mix with the water, and become less concentrated without losing volume, and chose 48.

Guess not?

haha no it was 30, don’t think that much into the questions, especially the earlier ones for math

it was a simple formula 3x+5x=80 8x=80 x=10 3x10=30

Does the ACT have curves because the science section death. Math was easy and reading was alright.
