Official Princeton University SCEA Class of 2017 Thread!

@Asendoh: Yes! Mine reverted to its “We have yet to receive all your materials” even though my status said that Princeton had all of my materials weeks ago.

^This applies to me as well.

^Same. Some kind of glitch?

Is there anyone for whom the status HASN’T changed?

my status changed as well, even though they have informed me that they received all my materials weeks ago

Same here, but it doesn’t list any materials under Items Received or Items Not Yet Received headings…

Same… They’re probably just prepping to release decisions.

Yeah they probably are getting ready for that. Most likely, they will shut off our accounts - that’s what they did with Penn accounts at least. When I first read the message, I thought that they were talking about the midyear report which theoretically they will need should we receive good news

Yup, I thought that they might be making a move to basic html, to prevent crashes.
As long as I’m not the only one, its fine :P

Ah, yeah it says I don’t have all of my materials sent, when before it said all of them were sent… hope this is just a bug, I’m freaking out!
Does anyone know how many people get accepted who are athletes??

Mine now says “Princeton has received your application”

Same here. Agree with the -->html comment posted before. No use looking for clues!

Answering the varsity athlete question - to my knowledge Princeton does not disclose the number of varsity athletes admitted as such. It probably isn’t hard to make a decent guess, however. Princeton is a NCAA Division I school so a large number of their athletes would have been recruited by other schools and most likely by Princeton itself. A Forbes report from 2010 suggested that 19.7% of undergraduates are athletes. An article from Princeton’s news says that nearly 1,000 undergraduates are varsity athletes. A few would be walk-on’s but my guess is that at the DI level, most are recruited.

So then if 1,000 undergraduates are playing a sport at the varsity level, it would stand to reason that it’s quite possible 250 freshmen are recruited and admitted as student athletes with the bulk of them being accepted through SCEA so they are not “lost” to other schools. The academic standards are still very high for these recruits except for possibly a few “superstars” but even these must possess academic results that are much higher than many other DI schools will accept. We know of one athlete who was recruited but not accepted, so I can attest to the fact that it’s not a “shoe-in” to be recruited.

I’m varsity captain of my fencing team at my school but I haven’t been recruited. I’m not ranked nationally either but I’ve placed highly at multiple scholastic competitions and whatnot. I wrote my essays about fencing and how dedicated I was. I have an average SAT score and a 3.7 gpa. Dp I have a shot?

Oh my Gosh! The nerves are starting to get to me, especially with many friends beginning to receive their decisions!

I’m trying hard to find a balance between being optimistic yet not getting my hopes up.

lol call me paranoid, but I thought the fact that my “tracking” status had reverted to “we have not yet received all required materials” meant that I’d been deferred… anyone else have/had that nagging paranoia?

Did you guys ever get emails when your application was complete? I didn’t but I thought I was supposed to. idkk

Major: Molecular biology all the wayyy!

Hi to all. I have been reading your post for quite a long time. I’m very nervous too, I can hardly sleep. I’m proud that everyone is so friendly and polite. I just want to know if I have any chances, I understand my essay was great, also my teacher’s recommendations were incredible, but I have a 3.70 GPA. Do you think I have any chances at all!

I hope you have a chance, because if you don’t, then I don’t either! It really comes down to your SAT/ACT scores, your extracurriculars, and other unique factors.

Of course, if you have any hooks it might affect your chances of admission. For example, if your parents attended Princeton you might get a little boost. If you are an ethnic minority (read: as long as you are not white and especially not Asian) you can also have an advantage.

Ultimately, my interviewer told me it was all a great big crapshoot, and there is no formula to get in. Good luck for everyone applying, because you really do need it!

Big breath, everyone! The wait is hard, I remember. Really hard! Try to stay busy and away from cc for a little while. As for “chances”, realistically it’s a long shot for everyone. If they went only on GPA and test scores, you’d know exactly what to expect but it doesn’t work that way…there are too many intangibles. I think being a non-recruited athlete adds dimension to an application but will not put the applicant into the “athlete” pool.
