When I submitted my application I was basically doing it on a lark, because I am in love with Princeton, but you have basically zero chance of getting in even WITH the required stats, much less without them (which is what I’ve got). The last few weeks I’ve been waiting for the results just to get results back, but I haven’t been too nervous, more resigned. After reading this thread I’ve become a bit more hopeful, and I’m actually quite nervous and excited for the results to come out. I’m not sure if that’s a better attitude to have, but we’ll see how it goes from here

These Duke, Penn, Harvard acceptances are making me paranoid. Yale’s up tomorrow!

If any of you white, male, hook-less, middle class guys are wondering about your admission chances, I crunched some numbers so we could be even more miserable. First, let me give you a couple of my assumptions:

First, I am going to guess that Princeton will admit 726 SCEA applicants. While hopefully everyone is aware that the number of applicants rose 10% last year, yield rates seemed to favor SCEA applicants and it would not be illogical if they were increased. Thusly, we keep the old number.

Also, my calculations will ONLY work for those in my demographic. They will not take into account grades, EC’s, essays, interviews, or any other unique factors. Only ethnicity and, to a lesser degree, socioeconomic status. I gathered my data from various places on the internet, and though I tried to find the most reliable sources possible I expect a pretty large margin of error. Also, I assumed no overlapping would take place between the various categories that Princeton judges its admissions. However, it is very possible that many international students might be white, or perhaps several NCAA Division 1 recruits are also the first in their families to attend college. Because of this, my data is very likely to under-represent the number of my demographic admitted. It would not be impossible for the actual rate of admission to be double that of mine; however, as I am only trying to get a rough estimate, this prediction should do the question some justice.

Basically, out of the 3,791 applicants in SCEA right now, the number of non-international, white, male, non-athletic-recruit, second-or-later-generation-college-attendee, non-legacy applicants stands at 109 individuals. As aforementioned, this could be a gross underestimate; however, it is unlikely that the number will top 200, and it would be very surprising to see 250. As it stands, for those of you out there like me, the admission rate is approximately 0.99-7% of the overall application pool.

Please take all calculations with a grain of salt, but I hope this gives everyone a slightly clearer idea of how tough this competition is. My fingers are crossed that everyone - including myself - gets really lucky on Tuesday!

AnonymousAnomaly,

Is that statistic excluding white females?

Also, when you say 109, do you mean that 109 will be accepted or that there are 109 are currently in the applicant pool? I would think there would be much more than that.

On the note of all the people commenting about how their app status changed to “incomplete”, mine went from complete to them saying my app was received and that the checklist isn’t available yet. Is that what you guys meant?!! Or is mine just different and I can become super anxious and depressed because I had to have been rejected?

Yes, guacamole, it is excluding females. If you were calculating it out for females, it would be about 106 white females offered admission. And yes, you are right. It is 109/106 offered admission. There are probably hundreds of average white people applying for a very limited number of slots, though SCEA is especially heavy in atheletes, minorities, and hooked applicants. RD will be a little more generous to us. Unfortunately, Princeton doesn’t share statistics about its applicant pool.

Wait is this on the Application Tracking System page? Because mine just says my name, birthday, school, and that they’ve received my application…

I’m varsity captain of my fencing team at my school but I haven’t been recruited. I’m not ranked nationally either but I’ve placed highly at multiple scholastic competitions and whatnot. I wrote my essays about fencing and how dedicated I was. I have an average SAT score and a 3.7 gpa. Dp I have a shot?
Please answer I’m so nervous!!!

wait so did anyone’s application status go from complete to incomplete back to complete?

I keep refreshing the notification page in hopes that by some miraculous glitch I’ll find out earlier than the 18th.

“poopface”,
Frankly, nobody knows. Considering the immaturity of your name and the manner in which you wrote - and rewrote - your question is indicative of a) a ■■■■■ or b) someone who might not fit Princeton well.

AHH!! Just got the official online notification email, now I can really start to freak out!

AnonymousAnomaly, I like you, and I totally agree with you.

Well, it seems like we’re one step closer to our decisions. E-mails are out!

My daughter applied SCEA. Her status said that her application was complete. And it never changed from complete to incomplete to complete.

Well mine used to just say “Your application is complete”. It now says “The Princeton Admission Office has received your application. Checklist information is currently not available. The checklist information will be available to applicants between September 01, 2012 and December 13, 2012.” What does that mean…?

@TotalMadness
That is exactly what mine says. I wouldn’t overanalyze it too much. There are only 5 days to wait and then we will all know our fates, so until then, try to relax a bit ( I know it will be diffcult, but we can all try to calm eachother’s nerves)

And I received the email too! I cannot beleive the day is nearly here!!!

That’s what I have too. It’s all just in preparation for releasing decisions.

Also, the status only reverted to the missing information thing for a little; I wouldn’t be surprised if you missed it. Anyways, I doubt it actually meant anything related to our decisions.

Only a few more days!!! Ahhhh so nervous!

So, did anyone see the stats of the Harvard SCEA acceptees? Crazy range.

I did see them and the range is insane. I’m torn between feeling super optimistic and incredibly terrified for tuesday!

^How “crazy” is this range?
