Official PSAT 2007 Thread

i’m a junior at a public school in ohio. I got a 240; my counselor told me when i went in to talk to him this morning, and the scores are being released schoolwide next week sometime. if you can’t get your scores by dec 10, go to collegeboard.com and look at my college quickstart. it has your score report and other stuff about the PSAT, and you can access your info starting dec 10.

t_rent: Congrats that was quite the accomplishment! Can you tell us if you missed any in any of the sections or if a perfect score required all answers to be correct?

Since the scores are not on line now, for goodness sakes, just walk in and ask your guidance counselor or someone to look it up for you!! Just be nice. It is ridiculous to have to wait.

if the counselors are ready to give out the scores, and they give it to ONE kid, then suddenly they well have all the kids in there

i think CB should have them online sooner that the 10th, that would be nice, but I understand not wanting to start giving them out willynilly

My school (in Washington) says they will hand them out around December 17th.

Homeschooler here. Last year we got scores around Dec. 9. On a homeschool site I just read that people started receiving theirs yesterday. They are mailed directly to our home addresses. Depending on what part of the country you’re in, your school should get them within the next few days if they’re not there already.

We weren’t expecting them for another week or more, so this is a surprise–hope to get them today or tomorrow. (D is quite anxious!)

DS & DD’s school waits until the last day before the holiday break before giving out the scores. Neither are Jrs this year.

We’re in NY; daughter got hers yesterday. Sad : (

Sorry you’re sad, Muffy. Try to remember, and help her remember, that there is going to be much, much more to your daughter’s application than her PSAT scores. It’s one test, taken on one morning - wonderful and exciting colleges of every kind your child may be considering, including the absolute most elite and selective - are FULL of kids who didn’t happen to get an award-worthy score on the PSAT.

It’s true that the plural of anecdote doesn’t equal data, and I don’t have any figures to hand, but I personally know three sophomores at Harvard who did not happen to bring their A-game to the PSAT and still landed right where they wanted to be. (Please note: I’m talking about where they wanted to be. I personally am not someone who sees H as the be-all and end-all. Just conjuring up a very recognizeable example.)

On another note: My son’s school (private school in NY) has not received scores yet.

Last year our school waited until after the first of the year.

Out of curiosity, how many writing no errors were there? Was it 3?
the Ribbon shirt question
the Europa question
the Beatles question

And “Another writing question, an improving sentence one, was like “For every opinion on an issue, there is an opposite opinion that goes against it” I put the answer choice that was “there is an opposite opinion”. Is that correct? I assumed that opposite and against were redundant so it would improve concision…”
What was the answer to that?

Hopefully someone has their test book/answers already to be able to answer this - im not sure if these early scores are just the score itself, or if you already got the whole thing (this would be for the Wed administration)

Thank you Harriet! She got straight As this quarter and worked really hard so I feel very sorry for her since these stupid scores count for so much! I know there are a lot of CC students in the same situation.

thanks 2by2, but to answer your question i actually do not have my test sheet back yet. i just know my scores. i will get my official report in school on tuesday with the rest of my school.

got my scores back today… i go to a private school in Louisiana, so that could have something to do with the promptness of the return of the scores.

well, i got a 200 even though i completely bombed the reading section… 59 reading, 75 math, 66 writing.

im one of the best scores at my school, but some guys who i expected to get higher than me were too nervous to look at their scores lol.

hopefully i will get commended. it really means a lot to me.

The scores are typically given to guidance counselors and when they are received by the students can vary quite a bit from school to school.

For the PSAT, you will not know what the cutoff scores for National Merit for a given state are until next September (sigh, I know-a long wait). If you scored high enough for national merit consideration, you will receive a letter in April with an invitation to have your score sent free to two colleges. Each state sets a cutoff (top 1/2 of 99%ile in a given state) and the scores change from year-to-year. In September, you will be notified if you are a semi-finalist or commended based on your home state. There are some threads here somewhere (search PSAT) where folks have listed cutoffs by state from year to year.

Muffy-don’t worry, the colleges will never see the PSAT. Additionally, economic advantage in terms of scholarship monies is slim. D had plenty of friends get into top colleges, often with scholarships with good grades and a normal PSAT. D was NMSQT finalist and the main thing is seemed to bring on her behalf was a full mailbox with materials from colleges. The volume of materials seemed to upset her and make it difficult to focus on which school to consider. I doubt my son’s score will approach D and I am looking forward to a more reasonable mailbox load with him-one we can ponder over.

Had a bad day.

Sophomore PSAT: 79 CR, 70 M, 76 WR = 225

Junior PSAT: 72 CR, 64 M, 70 WR = 206

%#&$*@!!!

^ wrong thread ;)

This one’s from last year.

ha whoops. It was bumped so I just mindlessly posted:)
