*OFFICIAL PSAT THREAD 2014 (US)*

Can someone give me a score interval (between this score and that score)
Math -1
Reading -6
Writing -0

Score?
CR: -5
M: -1
W: -4

@pumpkin572‌

MATH

-for the Chinese women one I changed my answer from “not enough info” to 10. Dumb mistake, I don’t know what I was thinking. I’m pretty sure it’s not enough info though.

CR

-the Bonnie and Clyde one was def altruistic
-Japanase passage was impromtu. Although a lot of people disagree, I think that’s the most likely choice since there was no info leading up to that question, it was out of no where.
-for the melatonin one I put soporific.
-for solid i put unchanging, I think. Or maybe it was another one that was very similar to unchanging, but I know it was either unchanging or the other one (forget which)

WRITING

I was convinced the mistake was had lain because I could not find any other , but after reading this thread, everyone is 100% sure that had lain is correct so I guess I got that one wrong

And I remember getting 4 e’s in a row too which freaked me out and made me spend like 20 seconds wondering if I messed up somewhere, but I just left it as it is

Was Bonnie Clyde the double word Sent Comp one? If so, I believe it was doctor…(something else)?

Math
-one value, x = -3 only

  • no contact for the circles
  • it was 8, 4sqrt 3
  • I and III
  • not possible

CR
-minutiae is correct

  • i put altruistic
    -soporific, it means sleep inducing
  • i put vexed cuz he was annoyed, not angry
  • i put support, because she states that they tradition way of milling is too hard. which means that she is trying to improve the villager’s lives
  • impromptu
  • i put substatial
-it was panacea because panacea means a cure-all

writing
-had lain is correct, so it was no error
-i put stands, but it might be wrong
there were 4 e’s and a edcba

my bad, the one about fixed was unchanging, i was thinking of another question

Sheesh how many mistakes did I already have at CR.

  1. the miasma thing (sure wrong): -1
  2. the one with answer choice “impertinent” (that’s the one about the interviewer’s questions): -1
  3. the definition of simply (are you sure that it is not absolutely? I think that he means that he is not saying it “absolutely”, there could be exceptions - I think -.5 (half wrong)
  4. the dolphins’ tone (I wrote indignant, angry because something is wrong) - probably correct: -.25
  5. facile vs interested - idk… but the choice “interested” indicated about the TECHNICAL aspects. and technical aspects are not necessarily superficial: -.5
Let’s give allowance for another -1, so in total,I have -3.25, so let’s just say -4

And for W

  1. The had lain (I thought had lain is wrong and it must be “lay”,since there is no clear preceding action). The other one was passive this is active, so I thought that it is wrong.: -.75
  2. about that scientist would wanted to collect real creatures. It seemed that none of the answer choices is correct.: -.75
  3. I wrote even so, … in the improving paragraphs: -.5
4-5. and probably 2 more that I did not notice. : -1 expected

So realistically 3 mistakes,so -4

so… let’s say -7 in CR and -6 in W at worst (I think that’s about). That will be like 64 in R and 63 in M, so total 207 (and I’ll kill myself if that happens lol)

RElistically,-4 in both CR and W. Hopefully that could be 70 in both… (wishful thinking)

Some of the questions stressed me out a bit.

Does anyone know what the definition of the “simply” question was? I put plain or plainly (don’t remember the exact answer)

@mathgeek2013‌ Someone a few pages ago actually found the passage about the dolphin trainer person. From the passage, it is very easy to see what some of the answers are, most notably that chronological narrative is not correct, that solid meant genuine, and that more angered response is probably better – Read the paragraph after as well. In either case, that question was really, really bad. We also feel a great sense of passion and care for the issue, but it is very hard to tell where CollgeBoard was headed with a few of the questions.
Also, facile means naive, which was the correct answer.

Questions I got wrong:
Math: circles one, thought it was radius
CR: impromptu, random one then maybe 2 more because thats always way happens on CR.

When you see the word “simply” you should have the words “only” or “basically” in your head.

The blind stares
of a million pairs of eyes
lookin’ hard but won’t realize
that they will never see
the P

–2Pac from Can’t C Me… WOW its such a close a PSAT reference but it’s a song from 1996

The answer is filmmaker I’m pretty sure. What will my score be with CR -6 ish M -1(ugh careless mistake) and W -0

It’s filmmakers b/c passive vs active voice. Score pred. for CR-6 M-1 W-0???

sensei passage

@sherlockholmes7‌ you wanted to use the filmmake first to avoid hte passive construction

read those,….

Predict my score? -3 critical reading, -2 for math, and -2 for writing?

no, it wasn’t in timely order
