you got 5 for that question, right JUST2?

what, crap!!!!

Its 25, the number of crayons he has has to be constant, and if its 25 when you count by either 3s OR 4s you have 1 left over, if he had 5 crayons he COULDN'T count by 3s.

yes, I know ... I believe that I did great on the writing section ....
For me - from highest to lowest
Math-Writing-Critical Reading

nalcon, yes but it didnt ask for 3 and 4, it was EITHER! you chose one or the other, if you chose 4 you get the smallest number, 5

answer was definetly 5 - the math genuise sitting next to me after the test said it ... it was either OR ... not both .. it was a tricky question ....... you pick 4 - 1 left .... answer is 5
sorry Nalcon

yep! =)

Well think about it: it wouldn't make sense to say "count by 3s and 4s", so you would say 3s or 4s, meaning when you count by 3s the remainder is 1, and when you count by 4s the remainder is 1.

Yeah, ETS wouldn't do something like that; the question would be too vague and nebulous to ask kids, especially at the beginning of a section.

I see your arguement, but the question then becomes one of language rather than of math in my opnion.

i think curves are as follows:
math: 80 78 75 72
Critical Reading: 80 79 77 75 73
Writing: 80 80 77 75 74 72

YOU?

it was a very bad question... but I am sticking to guns with 5... it should be interesting to see the actual answer... alot of people will be upset, most of the people that I talked to put 25 and they were saying how stupid i was for putting 5... the answer was most definetely 5

well number 1 - the question is kind of vague .. and somebody should complain - people that put 25- i see your side on why it is correct however, it did say or .. meaning on or the other ...
Sying "count by 3s and 4s" would be perfectly correct and legitmate.. the answer would then def be 25 ... but since it said or .. the answer should be 5 ... it would make more sense ...

I concur. It was 25. If it was that tricky it would have appeared at the very end of the math section. Not to mention 5 seems too obvious when it says "what's the smallest" and five is the smallest in the list of the choices. ETS would plan that "average kids" who saw that the question said when he counts by 5 "he has none left" would've automatically pick 5. It's a trap. 25 would require the correct amount of thought ETS planned students to do.

I think the curves will be something like this:

C.R.- 80,79,78,76,74,72
Math- 80,78,76,74,72
Writing- 80,79,78,77,75,73

AHHH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO lol i put 25.... there goes my 80 ::cries::

"or" does not mean 1 or the other, thats the thing

When you say "Whenever I try to add or subtract I get the answer wrong", you don't mean one or the other, you mean both

I really feel like calling Collegeboard now and complaning - this question is really not fair .. no matter if i got it right or wrong - everyone deserves to get credit.. when did a math test become one of language??

guju,

as said in grammatix, the order of difficulty means nothing

and it really wasnt hard if you saw the or as either .. or ...instead of both ... pretty simple problem actually...
