Official RD Acceptance Thread - class of 2012

Congratulations Pastaboy!

I'm assuming you had a great essay and extracurricular activities! Also, never underestimate a really, really great recommendation letter. Those things are vital to admission.

^ I find that acceptance very "questionable." Maybe I am just a horribly cinical person, but I don't believe it.

Decision: Accepted

Stats:[ul]
[] Fee Waiver Used?: No
[] SAT I (by section): 2320 (800/800/720 math)
[] SAT IIs: 800/780
[] Rank: 15ish/100ish.
[] APs (including this year's): 5, 5, 5, 4, will take a few more.
[] Senior Yr Courseload: Most difficult, or whatever the terminology is.
[] Number of Apps from Your School: Probably about 20.
[] Other stats (Awards, etc.): Not really anything. AIME qualifier once, but I have no intention of studying math or science so I can't see that being decisive.
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] ECs listed on app: Music, political involvement, small-scale environmental advocacy, involved in local public schools.
[] Job/Work Experience: Completely mundane summer job before senior year, fancy study abroad before junior year.
[] Essays (subject and responses): Very honest and unpolished. I thought the question about rejuvenation was stupid, so I made fun of it in my response.
[] Teacher Recs: "One in a million."
[] Counselor Rec: We're buddies.
[] Hook (TASP, RSI, Research, etc.): None. White, upper-middle class female.
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: CA
[] School Type, Average Stats of School (if available): Private, competitive, almost but not quite a Stanford feeder.
[] Ethnicity: See above
[] Gender: See above
[] Income Bracket: High
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None.
[] Strengths: Personality, recommendations, test scores, essays
[] Weaknesses: Rank, outside activities, personality :-P
[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: According to my counselor, they liked my essays.[/li][/ul]Other Factors: As an unhooked pseudo-achiever with significant legacy at another top-tier school, I was NOT expecting this acceptance, but thought I'd put my info up as both a beacon of hope for future applicants and a sign of how random this process can truly be.

General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: Good luck to people waiting on March 31st decisions, especially those of you who didn't get into Stanford. I'm a firm believer that there's a degree of personality-matching in this process, so I think everyone ends up at a place that works.

General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc:

Wow 8parks11 really has me stumbled

a professional high school programmer and he made $ 10k !

Son was ACCEPTED. Not sure if all the rest matters.

Even better, this is to get the suspense rolling. Its going to be us soon!

OMG I THOUGHT THERE WASNT ONE FROM LAST YEAR!!!
AHHHH this is so beneficial!

Some of these are pretty scary. But I can see why the accepted students were accepted.

yea i know me too
but for those who were rejected, it just seems completely random lol

no lol'ing for me. this is freaking intense! and yeah, i agree; the acceptees speak for themselves but...a lot of the rejectees seem equally worthy from everything posted here

Hmmmm...

Nhsharvard, how did you get in with your standardized test scores?

ACT: 27 (E:29, M:29, other sections were weaker)
SAT: 1640 (V:520, M:630, W:490)

I guess this shows (to everyone out there), that TEST SCORES DO NOT matter as much as they are thought. boo.

Does this mean no SAT IIs taken?

ive read through this thread like 3 times and i still cant find any common traits among the people accepted. ok they all have great scores, but the people rejected also had near perfect scores.
essay seems really important. everyone seemed to have the same ecs so i dont think dats such a major factor. some people were just unique cases.

dpattzlover, I believe nhsharvard has stated (on multiple threads) that he didn't get into Stanford, and that he's a student at Berkeley.

Lol, okay.

it seems a lot more cc people were accepted last year.
