about time we started an exclusive RD applicants thread to CC..

i would kindly request all RD applicants to introduce themselves.

I am from the tiny land of Bangladesh.
I took a gap year for some social work. My academics are average. I have a special interest in law but I am applying to CC as an Econ major. Is that a bad thing as all applicants indicate they wish to major in Eco??

The chances of getting into an IVY for me are very remote but I submitted my Admissions Part 1 and am currently struggling to decide on an essay topic. CC essay topic is “topic of your choice” with some general pointers. I am kind of lost…

Applying RD, c/o 2014

Can elaborate on stats at request.

Completed app pt 1 & p2

Need tchr rec’s and sch report.

I am Brazilian, also applying RD to Columbia. Let’s see what comes out of it, I am truly excited.

I’m applying

but I don’t want to spent the $75 to just go to part 2

i really want to see what the entire app is like

“i really want to see what the entire app is like”-rastafarian

if you are an applicant in common app. the entire app is nearly the same. columbia requires only 1 essay though. atleast thats what i think. =S

Da Bears Fan, where are you from?

for everyone, a little stats would be nice. =)

by the way, columbia gives a lot of personal attention to applicants doesnt it?
i submitted app part-1 only and i got this letter from a columbia alumnus whos interests and activities exactly matches mine. he is the president of NACCP. did anyone get a similar letter?

I’ll be applying (if I don’t get into MIT EA) to CC for physics. I’m hoping it helps that I’m from New York. Haven’t really decided on an essay topic yet. It may end up being a modified version of my commonapp essay or one of my MIT essays. I’m not liking the broad essay topics…

RD 2014 as well. As of now I’m well on my way to completing my application, but I’m still looking for people who will read my essay and ACTUALLY get back to me with USEFUL advice.

brunotl - it’s so cool to see another Brazilian applying to Columbia! I applied ED… Where are you from in Brazil? Are you living in Brazil now? I’m from Florianopolis, and I have family in Joinville, Curitiba, and Goiania, but am living in Boston. Boa sorte com a aplicacao!

i dunno, but did you guys recieve any letters from a columbia alumnus?
i only sudmitted app part 1 and i recieved a letter from the NACCP president, CC class of 94, and he talked about how we have the exact same interests…
i asked another bangladeshi applicant, he got a thank you letter… which i didnt get though!

I’m from Texassss. :)

And I’m applying ED too. Yeah, having one essay is crazyy.

@ motshokonna: “submitted app part-1 only and i got this letter from a columbia alumnus whos interests and activities exactly matches mine.”

Wait. Did we even have to list our activities and interests in Part 1? It’s been soooo long since I submitted it, I don’t remember. But I thought that was for Part 2?

I think everyone got the NAACP guy letter…

ah well… that kills the joy… =( … he he
to the ED ppl, why did you go ED??
i see a lot of ppl did at CC and now i am wonering if i should have too…
its a bit too late but it doesnt hurt to know… he he

Indian =)
Applying to Columbia College. undecided major.
i completed my IB diploma exams in may and took a gap year as well, lol.
i submitted my part I AGES ago, in the hope of an interview, haven’t got an email yet :(

Hey, I’m from Illinois but currently overseas on a gap year; applying RD to CC. Just had my Columbia interview. It went ok, my interviewer was really cool and nice.

Hi guys!

Just wanted to say that I got in last year (CC, intl student) and deferred so if anyone’s in my situation, send me a pm to chat! :)

it’s gonna be weird being the oldest one. :D

cheers!

Sup guys. Columbia is awesome.

All I have left is my essay. Can’t wait to get my app in. Good luck to all! :)

Can’t speak for all the ED students but I applied ED because I felt Columbia was a perfect fit. I thought applying ED would be the best way to show the admissions committee how much I loved Columbia; this wasn’t my second-choice school by any means. Of course, I couldn’t get in on passion alone, but I think it really complemented my academics and EC’s. There were four main things I wanted to communicate in my essay: my passion for Columbia and the reasons I believed it was a great fit, my passion for medicine, my writing ability, and my intellectual curiosity. I think applying ED helped them see the first of those four.

But enough about me. Good luck to all of you! Don’t hesitate to ask us EDers if you have any questions about the app.

Hey everybody! I am applying to CC RD and I am a little nervous but excited as well. I am from Bulgaria! Submitted my app for admission 1 and currently working on the 2nd one. Columbia is my dream college.
