Official Regular Decision Thread

I do understand that stats don't guarantee anything; Richmond simply seems like an anomaly. (And we may simply not have qualified for need-based aid, so I'm not surporised there - we're one of the "lucky" families who doesn't qualify but can't pay full price without pain.) But if she wants to go to Richmond, we'll figure out a way.

Dramageek- you are exactly right. My d was accepted last year and UR was on of the few schools who gave her a fair package. They were also very nice to us and treated us like human beigns. Going through the financial aid process can be very daunting- at least it was for me. Very nerve-racking. She ended up not going because I think she felt out of place and was afraid she would be the only low-income person there. (I know, not true) I understand the need for merit aid, but it saddens me to see people who cannot afford to go to college , while I know many people who received merit aid who openly say they don't need it at all. Most packages are loans loans loans, leaving the child with a crushing debt when they graduate. Just my humle opinion....

well that pretty much means i didn't get in, live in NJ nada, i wish they would tell defered people if they are getting rejected a bit earlier.

Dramageek164 - I'm very glad that UR has met your and many other applicants needs and expectations. Keep in mind that they have not met everyones so there are those of us disappointed and unhappy with the results. There will always be disappointed people in the process and won't think it's equitable. As you age and attain maturity you learn that "life is not fair." For those of us not happy with the results we will just move on to schools that will make us happy and will have just as high caliber of students as UR.

While you don't appreciate my "harsh tone" I don't appreciate your condescending attitude by trying to the teach the rest of us the financial/merit aid process at UR. Since we all post on this board we can obviously read and have read UR's website thoroughly on this subject.

Hope you have a great time at UR if you decide to go there. It is a lovely school.

S was accepted also, but with no merit scholarship, although he was a semifinalist for Richmond Scholars. He won't be attending. Richmond is a beautiful school, but not worth $46,000 a year.

Wow, patsmom! Now I feel better - I assumed that all semifinalists would at least get something!

Me, too, Chedva :(

loved the school but with no merit money I cant justify having my parents pay $25000 more then a slightly inferior school or $40000 more then our state school. I dont want this to sound like sour grapes but I wish the school would cut back on full rides and hand out $10000 or so for strong but not the top candidates.

I'm just curious...why does it cost so much? Maybe schools think raising tuition will attract a better pool of kids??? It does seem like a lot of money when some of the state schools offer a wonderful education. (it's also hard not to get drawn in by the beauty of the campus there too)

I was a semi-finalist and also didn't get merit money.

Nothing in the mail today, and we are not even looking for financial aid--doesn't look good.

Nothing in the mail here either. I haven't heard from anyone that was denied...we must get that letter tomorrow.

Pineapple07, You're right I was condescending, sorry.

i was a semifinalist who recieved nothing as well, which is disappointing since U of R is such a gorgeous school. As others have said, I can't justify shelling out 40000 or so per year, so unfortunately I doubt I'll be attending. Congrats to all others who were accepted though!

i got an email saying that i was selected as an oldham scholar! anyone else get scholarship news?

its pretty obvious that the accepetences were given first through priority mail and were recieved already leaving only the waitlist and rejection letters, can't wait to get that tommorow!

I live in Louisiana and I just got my acceptance today. I wasn't applying for financial aid either, so there still might be more coming.

I haven't heard anything yet... But I'm out in the middle of nowhere (Boarding school... south central PA... Cow country)... So it might be taking a while... I can hope can't I?

waitlisted....aka doomed

i was waitlisted....aka doomed bascially rejected
