I have taken 8 courses at the University of Minnesota through the "PSEO" program, that basically lets you take college courses for free as a high school student and recieve credit on both your high school and college transcript. At high school, I have taken AP European History, AP English, AP Statistics, and AP Spanish.

Legacy

Strengths: Two very strong letters after my deferral, classes at the University, letters of reccomendation, essay, strong interview (we talked for 3 hours)

Weaknessnes: Poor sophomore year (came out as gay & depression), extracurriculars

Also, if anyone was following the Brown Daily Herald or the Alumni Magazine, my blog was mentioned twice (<a href="http://www.justpetehere.com)%5B/url%5D">http://www.justpetehere.com)</a>. Don't know if that helped or hurt.

Accepted: Hamilton, Macalester, Reed, Trinity, Tufts, Vassar, Wesleyan
Wait-Listed: Haverford, Swarthmore
Denied: Yale

I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one who dealt with my homosexuality in my sophomore year.

gay in a private catholic school? in my experience (going to a private catholic school for 10 years), there is a chance you might have it rough. Yet, despite conservative Catholic angst towards homosexuals, there is a big group of progressive Catholics who realize that whether or not one believes it is immoral or not(imo:its as immoral as being heterosexual), there is no reason to antagonize gays. In fact, like any other human being, they should be treated like, well, any other human being, with respect.

sigh - I've become very thoughtful since the passing of Pope John Paul II. I, like many others, loved him dearly.

lol, I think that's just what the bible says. love thy neighbor, my friends. dignity, respect, equality.

dcircle:

I've seen very few 1200's accepted and just a few 1300's. Many more are in the upper range. Conversely, I've seen many 1400's and 1500's rejected as well. Surely it takes a whole lot more than a 1500 to be accepted. But if two people with similar statistics and talents apply, but one has a 1500 and one has a 1300, the 1500 is far, far more likely to get in. Talents are great, but they only take you so far. You can be the most qualified person, ridiculously talented and just what they say they are looking for, but if you don't have the SATs you are at a serious disadvantage. Not to sound pompous, but I speak from experience.

just to start off, i'd like to say i have nothing to do with this forum, i'm going to NYU, i was just browsing because one of my friends applied to brown...

i have an idea: those of you who think digital should not be at brown, or think it's b/s that he got in, should just NOT GO, that is, if you even GOT IN yourselves...if by some miracle you DID get in, it must have been based heavily on test scores, gpa, and other non-personal information, because anyone with any intelligence would be able to see through any type of acceptable facade you have put up to the kind of narrow-minded and ridiculous people that you really are...no one on this forum has any right to tell someone they aren't "good enough" to go to a school, or that it would be a "hindrance" to their lives, so i think the hate should stop...

and no one gets into college based TOTALLY on race, in case you weren't aware 8]

thank you for your time.

Here here, katrina! Well said. To bad you're not attending Brown! Because you're the kind of kid I'd love to see there :) IF I GET IN! (i'm a nervous wreck if you haven't noticed)

wait listed

Brown is definitely still my first choice. I actually feel proud of being on "the list".

i dont know about digi..but i do know i got rejected to the ivies i applied to and well i think race has something to do with..

i go to the worst school in the city..its been in the news..everyone knows its bad..but from there iw orked my butt off on my own to do well..the avg sat score in my school is like a 600 and i had to overcome a lot...i did a lot for the school too being on the leadership team and secretary of student government..i had a lot of a leadership positions..great essays..great recs..my interviewer was even shocked to hear i got rejected..she was like she wrote me a glowing rec..my ranking was awesome too..i wen tto nationals a couple of times for debate..and well usually only schools like bx science go to nats..and i did that without an advisor for a whole yr..cuz our coach left us...have a lot of volunteering hours, leadership, etc.my sat score was the even more than doubel the avg sat score in my school...i am poor too and i come from a pretty sucky azz neighborhood that most of you guys would consider the ghetto...and yes..i got rejected

it might be rude for me to say this..but it is the truth..i got rejected because im asian..and i am soo sure if an urm from my school with my stats (nobody had the same stats as me) were to try..they would've soo gotten in..in a heartbeat..soo..whoever tells me i dont have a right to say what i say..screw them..sometimes i just dont want to be right..

digital..congrats ..ITS NOT YOUR FAULT......GOOD YOU BEAT THE SYSTEM!!awesome.....im happy you got accepted..i know how hard it is..coming from messed up neighborhoods..

but seriously..i hate the system...its should be about the socioeconomic status..not the race..screw this!!!!!..YES IM ANGRY!!

This is all irritating me. You proponents for letting it all get to you, and you opponents for being bitter that your own achievements fail in comparison (i.e. you're jealous, so st fu). Drop this boring crap. (btw, Asians are already overrepresented in colleges, so there is no bias against them.)

Congrats to my brownies. How many of you actually plan to matriculate?

I'm matriculating, amor.

I agree with you. The whole process is a crapshoot. Complaining and *****ing will get people nowhere. Everyone did their best to represent themselves. Nobody knows why a decision went one way or another -- it doesn't matter. It's done.

Amor said it very well. Relax. This is an internet forum, not the state of the union. I hope people don't bring this amount of hypersensitivity to Brown.

That said, congratulations to everyone who was accepted. :) I hope to see you next year.

generally speaking, i think sexydesi has a right to be upset. the whole point is that it is more difficult for asians to be accepted--the bar is set higher. on the odd chance that there is an asian applicant from a lower socioeconomic background, it can seem like everything is working against them.

in college admissions, it is recognize that qualifying "stats" vary widely along race lines, and we assume this is do to variable access to resources. as a result, for better or worst race is taken into account. when it is for better, we liberals praise it. when it is for worst, many conservatives denounce it. either way, the truth of the matter is that taking race into account places us on very fuzzy ground.

what i can say, however, is that you have the option not to identify your race on the Brown application (an option that about a quarter of those admitted to Brown take). as a south asian, i made a point of not identifying when i applied a few years ago, and if i'm ever given that option in an academic setting again, i will most likely take it.

dcircle..thats really true..but my name is a complete desi name..and im not hypersensitive..at first i was okay with affirmative action..a part of me felt it was about a person economic and social status thats why..but now i see that didnt really matter..im not whining..im just trying to say everyone who thinks race doesnt play a part is just being blind..im not trying to start an argument..btw amor i cant be jealous..i didnt even apply here..im just trying to show how race does play a part..so no need for u to add in my being jealous minutes after u posted..you're not proving anything..anyway..ppl can only call it whining when they arent in that position..simple..anyway..congrats to everyone..and CONGRATS TO DIGITAL TOO IM SURE HE WORKEDDD HIS AZZ OFF I DONT DENY THAT I KNOW HOW HARD IT IS COMING FROM A BAD ENVIRONMENT..ill never try to say digital never deserved it BUT ALL IM SAYING is that..having the same experience doesnt matter cuz im asian..anyway..this doesnt make digital look bad..he deserves everything he got!..good luck!..anyway..if you have a problem with waht im saying..if it irks you to read it..cuz u dont want to see it...just ignore it..im not forcing you guys..

stop whining

stop being pretentious

hahaha thanks claysoul, took the words right out of my mouth

I'm going to intercede in the AA argument by saying I'M IN!!!! This is so unreal! Now that I'm in, I can let myself love it even more! Hope to see everyone ADOCH!
