Results are out! Obviously. For all of you who got the call, congratulations! You have been admitted to what is perhaps the most selective undergraduate program in the US. This thread has been made especially for you. It's about time. Post here.

Even those who made it to the interview stage and didn't get accepted, feel free to post!

I got accepted. I am also from Houston. Who else/where did people get accepted from? Any schools you can considering over this program? I cannot choose!!!

Also from Houston? I’m from the North Texas area. Rice/Baylor was definitely my first choice, and IMO I would pick it over any undergraduate including Harvard and I think it’s the best combined program.

So, for some reason I am very curious why people would drop out from the interview stages of this program. The lady, when I was being called from the interview, said that of the 50ish people invited to interview, only some 25 chose to come. Why would people turn down “the most selective” undergrad program?

It’s natural for you to be curious about that, I had the same thought. Luckily, there are some possible answers to your question that actually would make sense.

A. They had already made their college decisions and didn’t want the hassle of going down to Houston to interview. This could occur if they were already set on their dream school (likely HYPSM).

B. They got into HYPSM with $$$ but did not receive as much at Rice (i.e., any financial reasons), so it didn’t make sense to go down for the interview and spend more money.

C. They were admitted to another top combined program (likely Brown PLME or NW HPME) and it was more convenient for them to go there or they received more money.

D. They didn’t realize the awesomeness of Rice/Baylor and just applied to it out of a whim, not knowing the significance of their selection.

E. The ‘interview yield’ just happened to fall that way this time.

This year I was told they actually invited only 40 to interview. In past years I noticed a much higher % of those invited actually came. I don’t think you should be worried that there’s anything wrong with the actual program, though :)

I’d probably recognize you if we didn’t meet. Do you want me to make a facebook group or something?

I really wanted to go to this program… have wanted to go ever since 9th grade. When I got to the interview stage, I really thought I had the chance. Personally, I thought I did a pretty good job. I guess it’s kind of based the luck of the draw of how vocal your interviewer is when they have their discussions and how much he/she likes you.

And to top it off, BCM accepts 12 kids even thought the Rice/Baylor website said 14… just wonderful :/

Best of luck everyone. You are truly fortunate to be in this position… I guess I’ll just have to work a bit harder :/

Dang, sorry to hear that MedNerd. It’s also been a dream of mine for a while…hmm…there is certainly an element of luck involved with the interviewer etc.

Really? They accepted only 12 this year? Anyway, I’m sure you’ll do well at Rice and land up in a great med school :)

also, to those who didn’t get in, i think there’s still hope. To the best of my knowledge, three other people who got in this year aren’t going, so if you are on the waitlist you have a good chance of still getting in. And even if this doesn’t happen, I know a lot of you are still going to great medical programs, or going to Rice with its 90% med school acceptance rate, so I’m not worried about any of you :)

Omg I got accepted to Rice/Baylor today!!! I don’t believe this!

Torcher, I think I remember you from the interview- we talked for a while (you’re a wrestler right?). Do you have a roommate? Message me porfavor!!

AAAHHHHH GOOD JOB!!! CONGRATS! I am very excited for you. I have no idea if i met you at the interview, lol, but either way im excited that the Rice/Baylor family is growing, hahaha

I graduated in 1984. No single person that I knew did not get into medical school. Most who stayed in Texas ended up at Baylor or Southwestern. We had a few who went to Ivy League schools. One of the guys in my group made a 43 on the MCAT. I think top three in the whole country. He was accepted everywhere he applied, and chose Hopkins. He was by no means among the top in terms of GPA etc.
Congratulations for making it to Rice.

Hey guys, no idea if you are still looking at this thread but mind posting stats? I’m a rising senior from Michigan and was looking into this program.
