Hi, I am an international student (currently studying in the US) and I applied to Rice for this Fall. I just discovered this threads and I wanted to ask your opinions since you all seem to know a lot more than I do haha
I have a 4.00 GPA (high school and US college). However, I only have a 1330 on my SAT and I was wondering if that would play against me or would they consider the fact that I am international and that I have good grade in college?
Thanks in advance! And good luck to everyone!
Will decisions come out this week?
@AFrenchy93 You have a nice profile, and the international aspect of your character helps too. Will you be a full pay student? There is limited financial aid offered to international transfer students, and no merit aid offered to any type of transfer student. Furthermore, they are need-aware for international transfers.
Besides that, if you made a great application with strong essays and letters of recommendation, I would still think you have a solid chance Good luck!
@luckybaby , from the previous 5 years, Rice has released its first wave of decisions on the last Friday of April, so I would believe so.
@AGoodFloridian Thanks! Unfortunately, quite the opposite. I am asking for financial aid which makes the probably of being accepted really low… But I hope that the other component of my profile will play to my advantage. I worked very hard on my essays and talked about a rough experience in my life related to terrorism in France.
Thank you! Good luck to you too. I hope we will be both accepted
I don’t want to hype up this Friday too much, because there hasn’t been any official confirmation that it will be D-Day but…
Still pretty excited for it! We’ve come a long way, huh? I’m wishing the best for everyone here since finals week is coming up. Stressing about college decisions and finals can get wearisome. Hang in there

@AGoodFloridian Saw you on the vandy thread. I’m also a physics major and interested in nanoscale science.
@Skiier3 Fistbump Yesssss, a future classmate!
Congrats on your acceptance to Vanderbilt! Regardless of what happens on Friday, you still have an amazing option. Best of luck to both of us. <3
Thanks! Hopefully we’re due for some good news soon.
I feel like the more I hype up the day, the more likely it will be “jinxed” and not actually happen. I just can’t help myself.
We’ve come to the final stretch! Keep in mind that if you’re not in the first wave, you will most likely hear back on the 2nd week of May(looking at past threads). The first wave, as usual, contains the most acceptances. However, Rice doesn’t hold back with its denials They sprinkle some of those in the first wave too, along with waitlists.
Regardless of the outcome, I hope the wait ends tomorrow- at least for Rice.
deep breath

@AGoodFloridian Thank you for your kind words. It may sound weird if I say I created a CC account just to reply to you.
Actually I have followed CC thread for a while but never jumped in. However, I am still a part of this journey in some way. I have read all your caring and encouraging comments to people - which is a decent pleasure to read. Just want to say if you have reflected yourself as the person I see you are on these threads to Rice, they will lose a huge asset if they do not take you.
Good luck for everyone. I know we are competitors, but there is a chance we can be classmates.
@nhbmymymymy That was incredibly kind of you. In these stressful times it’s always nice when we find reasons to smile, and you just gave me one right now.
I have the feeling that there are many prospective students silently watching these threads, and I would encourage all of them to participate in the chat! Although we won’t reach Vandy’s transfer thread(that thing has almost more pages than the RD and ED decision threads COMBINED :)) ), it’s clear that there are so many qualified applicants on this thread as it is. ( I don’t usually reply to the chance me’s because I’m quite trash at that hahaha)
I think we as transfer students have the chance to bring new perspectives and experiences onto the Rice campus- and while life doesn’t owe us happiness, I’m sure we do have a lot of things to teach and learn to/from the students there.
One more day. It’s definitely been a weird journey for me and I’m going to be emotional no matter what happens, overpowering joy if accepted, even more anxiety if waitlisted or no response, and a good deal of disappointment if denied. Good luck to all, hopefully I get to meet some of you guys in August for O-Week.
do you guys know what time the decision will be out?
Technically we don’t even know that they’ll come out, but I believe it’s been around 3 pm.
@usualhopeful Aye. Just for the thrill of it, I looked at the threads from 2011,2012,2014,2015,2016 (what else would I use my free time for right?) and the first wave was released on the last Friday of April on -all- of them. The one exception being 2015(I think), where it was released on May 1st, a Friday.
As for the time, the years where Rice used Esther for admissions, the decision was released early in the morning around 9-10AM EST. In the previous years however, decisions have been known to come out at around 2-3PM, as stated above.
So it really does look like something’s going to happen tomorrow.
I really like Vanderbilt, and I’ll be so happy if that’s where I end up, but Rice also seems pretty much perfect and I’m not gonna lie waiting is super stressful.
Good luck everyone. Hope we all get favorable decisions today
I agree so much, @AGoodFloridian the amount of Data mining you have done for this thread is unreal and extremely helpful. Good luck everyone!
