**Official Rice University Transfer Thread 2010**

Don’t expect a decision until mid May.

Join the Transfer Student Association when you guys do get accepted :] We look forward to having you guys join our Rice community!!

@boots47 Hell yeah! I’ll even become an officer :)

I called Rice today and they told me that the decisions will not be released until May 15. Was it the same last year and they took you by surprise on April 27?

I actually emailed them, and they said that even though it says May 15th they will be “emailing decisions a bit earlier” but that she doesn’t know the exact date.

So nervous… I’m transferring from University of Wisconsin- Madison and applying to the Political Science program at the School of Social Sciences. Anybody know if there is a specified number of spots for each school? Other than for engineering?

Hey guys, just wanted to let you know that right now I’m studying at Rice’s library… It is amazing! I hope I get accepted, good luck!

That’s so funny, I’m pulling an all nighter at Club Fondren tonight too. There’s still so many people here. *sigh Finals :(

@boots47 What’s your major? Can you tell us more about you transfer experience at Rice?

So historically Rice has released transfer decisions in late April, and from talking with certain higher-ups that’ll probably be the case again. The date is always listed as May 15th, but that’s almost definitely not the case.

That being said, they are accepting significantly more transfers in the fall this year, as they recently eliminated their spring admissions process. Might make it slightly more favorable to get in this year than in the past, though I’m not aware whether or not the transfer applicant pool was larger this year.

Anyway, best of luck to everybody, and for those of you who make it in, look for the Transfer Student Association this summer! We’ve been working heavily with administration to try and make Rice more transfer friendly, so we’ll definitely try and get in touch with you guys!

^ i agree ive been checking everyday but still nothing

The Rice Thresher (student newspaper) says there are empty beds available on campus - so there may be more oncampus housing for transfers next year.

How much does Rice charge for a single bed dorm? How much for the rest?

Do you guys realize that starting tomorrow, we could hear from Rice any day?! CRAZY!

i know, im just living it one day at a time

@transfermonk: First of all, we have residential colleges, not dorms (but I guess u can call them “dorms” if u want). Secondly, you pay the same price for singles as doubles. However, it depends on what residential college you are placed in… most of them don’t have singles (only the two new ones, McMurtry and Duncan, have singles). If you get placed into those colleges with singles, then you will only get a single if they are any available.

Slik Nik–Wiess has lots of singles, usually available only to juniors and seniors. I think there may be some other colleges that have singles, too, not just the two new ones.

But the singles at Wiess are still part of a suite, correct? The singles at Duncan and McMurtry are standalone singles - not part of any suite.

Does anyone know how how Rice contacts us about their decision? E-mail? Phone Call?

I believe ESTHER will update with an decision, followed shortly by an e-mail. Then a packet or letter will be mailed. (note: the snail-mail is the official decision)

@sliknik thanks for the info, but how much does it cost?
