My daughter has applied for film production but according to the usconnect site she is still lacking several items from her film school application. “Cinematic Arts Personal Statement”, “Letters of Recommendation”, “Portfolio List”, “Production Writing Sample”, “School of Cinematic Arts Suppl. App.” and “Second SCA Personal Statement”. All of which were submitted.
When we called the school last week they told us that they have had so many applicants this year that they haven’t even started processing anyone yet. Has anyone else gotten this response?

I’m in the same bind. It says that none of the SCA stuff has been received under Admission documents.

Yep, I’m experiencing the same situation. I wouldn’t worry about it. It seems some people’s supplemental materials have been received, but most of us are still waiting.

Where can you check the list of items they are showing as received? When we go on the USConnect site it just has the updated message saying they’ve gotten our mid-year grades and don’t need anything futher at this time…

Are you clicking on Admission Tab at top…and then the Admission Documents box on rt?

I still haven’t gotten the trustee/presidential not eligible letter or the request for mid year grades should i be worried

Just checked the documents again under the admission tab, and it says everything is recieved. I guess they’re still processing all the SCA apps. So I wouldn’t worry.

I can’t stop thinking about these status updates. Maybe we should change the subject?

What’s everyone’s favorite movie? (Seems like an appropriate question.)

Vertigo, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Lord of the Rings, and all Stanley Kubrick movies! Oh and Manhattan.

Haha sorry that’s more than one.

I thought both Vertigo and Eternal Sunshine were excellent as well, Benjo…though I think I enjoyed Psycho more. My great shame is that I’ve never seen the LOR films!

As far as a favorite, I think I go through phases. I’ve been in a QT phase lately. Though he only wrote it, I’d say True Romance is one of my current favorites. I know it’s old but I just saw it for the first time a few months ago. I also like most anything by Scorsese, my favorite being The Departed(Leo rocks!)

Yeah Psycho is incredible, but I’m a James Stewart fanatic. And yes! I love QT. Inglourious Basterds was my favorite movie last year.

My favorite movie is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind! That and Little Miss Sunshine.

Has anyone else seen Shutter Island yet?

Yes I did! I really liked it. It felt like a return to classic filmmaking visuals. I liked the swish pans. Also I love DiCaprio

I know most other film geeks are like totally obsessed with Kubrick but I’m not sure how I feel about him. The Shining is BRILLIANT–and so is Lolita, but he crushed the very essence of the book; he completely eliminated the entire point of the story by making Lolita older and fully-developed. (That said, mother-of-god, Sue Lyons is phenomenal as Lo.) And I’m still not sure how I feel about A Clockwork Orange.

Basically, I’ve learned that Kubrick’s schtick is completely, utterly destroying incandescent works of literature… in order to make some pretty freakin’ genius movies.

IB was definitely my favorite movie of 2009. I am also a QT fanatic. My favorite of all time has to be The Lives of Others. A couple others… Eternal Sunshine (LOVE Kaufman), Let the Right One In, Yi Yi, The Graduate, The Dark Knight (I live close to where they filmed so I got to stalk them downtown!)… lots and lots. :)

PS. In case anybody’s interested, I was going through old SCA threads and it seems like a lot of people who post on CC get in (SCA '12 - 9 out of 15 posters). I guess that makes sense since CC posters tend to be the ones at the top of the applicant pool, but I think it reminds us that our perspective here is skewed and not everyone who applies has a 4.5 GPA.

I love Shelley Winters in Lolita! And in The Diary of Anne Frank. And in general. My favorite Kubrick movies are Full Metal Jacket, 2001, and The Shining… Okay I love all of them. There’s this really cool book on Amazon that has a whole bunch of interviews he did. And he didn’t do too many haha.

@dreamupsided0wn your postscript made me feel good hah.

A lot of my friends disliked IB, but I agree that it was my favorite movie of last year. The dialogue was classic QT(brilliant) and I thought he actually did a great job of building suspense. Plus, Brad Pitt is really turning into a top notch actor.

I loved Shutter Island! I agree it was a nice piece of “classic” filmmaking. Benjo, you’re a production applicant. I thought at first some of the editing was a bit choppy. There were some cuts that didn’t appear to be in sync, if you will. Also, when the patient Leo is talking to takes a sip of water and puts it down that was a bit strange. But based on the ultimate result of the movie, I’m guessing this was all on purpose. Did you notice any of what I’m talking about? I’m trying to describe it without including any spoilers!

YES I DID! Me and my friend went to it and I said something to him about the discontinuity during the movie but I knew Scorsese wouldn’t accidentally do that. It works perfectly for the movie as a whole though. I want to see it again!
