That was my thinking. With someone as talented as Scorsese, there is a reason behind everything.

I saw it again. Watching it a second time made me appreciate Leo’s performance even more!

I saw it again. Watching it a second time made me appreciate Leo’s performance even more!

In fact I think it’s probably the most I’ve enjoyed a second viewing of a film.

I wanted to stay in the theater after the credits and watch it again! Looks like I have no choice now. I must see it again.

I wish there were spoiler tags on here. Anyhow, I think you’ll really appreciate the subtleties of the film the second time around!

What did you guys think of (500) Days of Summer? That was also one of my favorites of last year. IMO it was a fresh film in a genre that can often produce a lot of garbage. Not usually my favorite genre but I found myself really loving this one. It might have something to do with my mild Zooey Deschanel obsession.

I loved Shutter Island as well. I thought the bit with the glass of water was great. I focused too much on the plot the first time. I need to see it again to take in all of the ridiculous water symbolism.

I thought 500 Days of Summer was decent.

The dialogue in IB was definitely awesome/classic QT. I LOVED the scene with Shoshana and the young Nazi in the projection room… the cinematography (with all of the light/her red dress) and the score (Ennio Morricone’s “Un Amico”) combined made that my favorite part of the movie. Besides, of course, the botched italian accents scene. XD

“Besides, of course, the botched italian accents scene.”

Arriverderci.

I’m sorry but you “kids” have completely missed the boat on Kubrick. His 2 greatest films, in order, are “Dr. Strangelove” and “2001”. Dr. Strangelove because it skewered the military industrial complex at the height of the cold war so perfectly. Not only that but everyone is perfect in their roles, especially George C. Scott, Slim Pickens and, of course, Peter Sellers.
2001 because it broke completely new ground and scifi films have never been the same. Check out some classic scifi from the 50’s and early 60’s and then compare it to 2001. Nothing remotely comes close. It was in a whole new category and revolutionized the entire genre.

Agh! I forgot about Strangelove. I love that movie!

“Of course I want to talk Demetri. Now, Demetri, I can be just as sorry as you.”

I’m sure everyone who liked Clockwork or Shining liked Strangelove and 2001 too. :P

EDIT: BenjoFilm and I posted at the same time… but there you go.

ps I wrote an article about 2001 here [Bits of Flix | “2001: A Space Odyssey” Review](http://www.bitsofflix.com/reviewdetail.php?recordID=In%20the%20Year%202001)

BenjoFilm - did you use that article for your film review? (if you applied to CS… now that I think about it, I’m pretty sure you only applied to P…)

I wish I had applied to CS also, but I didn’t…

Aw, that’s too bad. I’m sure you’ll make it into P anyway though! :)

If anybody wants to read my review of HBO’s John Adams (I used it for my CS supplement), just PM me.

Thanks I hope so

I really enjoyed (500) Days of Summer, but I think the beginning alone was my favorite part (just the text before the actual movie, I don’t want to spoil the joke for anyone here) and the narrator – “Just a simple girl…”

And they’re called “swish pans”?! I was trying to explain how cool I thought that was at the beginning of the movie when they first got to the island and my friends didn’t understand what I was talking about…

Haha yeah. You can imagine the swishing sound effect often used in that type of camera movement. :)

USC just told me that they haven’t received my portfolio. AH. Now I have to send it via e-mail, and also convert everything to a PDF. So instead of having a professional, organized portfolio like I sent earlier, my materials now are all separate and say “Nitro PDF Service” at the bottom of each page.

Oh me. Stressing.

Not to mention I don’t have my emotional moment essay saved so I have to re-write it in the next hour or two.
