*OFFICIAL* September 2012 ACT Science Section Discussion

Absolutely, f’ing, ridiculous.

brutal! they should just giver everyone 36 since that wasn’t even a fair test. it was easy at first but got crazy hard towards the end

Marcut, I feel exactly the same way. I’m so ****ed off right now. I spent like 100 hours studying for this. I spent nearly all my time studying for reading & English since I did well on math & science last time. Math was easy again this time for me & I think I might have gotten a 36 on the first 3 sections. BUT, I think that my science was probably 24ish. I got a 34 last time on science! There is something seriously wrong when someone gets super high 30s in three sections then gets a low 20 in a section that they have always gotten on the high 30s on on other ACTs. I say we hit em up with a class action lawsuit for torturing us (and ruining our chances of getting into a good college, and thus the rest of our lives) purely for their enjoyment

@Imdad1 Salinity is measured with ppt which was on a graph errr chart

Wow i’m an idiot @kitkatt… was it more saline or less saline?

Guys, I don’t think you should freak out that much. You definitely will not get a 24… The first time I took the ACT, I didn’t practice at all. I went into the science and only got to the third passage, guessed the last 5 minutes on everything else, and shockingly scored a 26. So I don’t think it will be that bad unless you were hoping for a 36!

@imdad1
I actually got that question right. Under 0.0 on the graph in parentheses it says that they had saline

As someone who usually runs out of time before finishing the last few questions and usually gets confused by some of the data, I actually didn’t think this science section was too hard. The only trouble I had was on the two hypothesis passage, and that was mainly because I only had 5 minutes left. I didn’t get to one question, and I was iffy on like 2 others.

Either way, the rest of you guys are making me really optimistic about the curve :)

PS: Anyone remember what they put for the last question? I’m wondering if I guessed right.

@kit, I was… I don’t think I missed a single question until the science section which raped me

I’m glad to see everyone else thought it was hard too. Hopefully the curve will be pretty lenient. O am, however, worried that other than the last 2 sections were hard. Soooo, the curve is kinda a toss up. Maybe

I kinda am interested in how long it would take for a chemist or physicist to take the science portion. Did ACT make the mistake in making me think that I’m some physicist or chemist, lol?

Science was messed up. I totally nailed the english and reading, and even though my calculator didn’t work in math, I still say I got a 33-34 between those three sections. I’ll be lucky if I pull a 25 out of science. One girl in my room cried after it. Not one person I was with finished without guessing the last 5 or so.

@wcclirl444! I’m pretty sure i just got raped by the science section too. Brutal!

I really want to put this thread in a “Send a Question by Email”…

let’s stop complaining lool obviously we all agree they were crazy… lool

can we discuss the last passage? I will start off…

It is 50-50 percent. right?

That’s what I guessed ^
It’s better for us ALL to complain. Hopefully the test graders will have mercy on our souls lol

I guessed 50/50 cause in my quick glance something matched up. Don’t trust my opinion though.

LETS START A QUESTION LIST( A MAJORITY OF US AGREE THE SCIENCE TEST WAS RAPE, let’s just move on to the questions and discuss answers)

Question on the last passage. Asking about percentage for two different compounds?
Split was 50%/50%

Ugh, I hated this one. I wanted to cry because it was so hard and lengthy. :(

I didn’t think it was that bad. Certainly more difficult than any practice test that I had taken, but not enough to start cursing the families of the testmakers or whatever. The one with the expanding and contracting gases in the boiling or cold solution threw me for a loop though.
