Official September ACT Reading Thread

Yeah his conclusion definitely was the reason why I went with argumentative

Informative. He/she didn’t really argue anything. The author just presented a bunch of information from one side and a bunch of information on the other side and analyzed both sides equally – the author even gave an almost equal number of examples for each side. Although it can sound like the author was disdainful with regards to the commercialization of the book selling industry, he/she didn’t really argue for either side.

argumentative. he sided with the superstores, although not strongly. he put both sides out there. but i really think it was argumentative

gleek96^ what I said. It sounded like he was arguing for the superstores.

I put argumentative because the informative answer said it was an essay about the indie book market when it wasn’t it was about both. But I could see it being informative too.

Yeah informative said it informed about the history of indie store development which didn’t apply to the selection

If it were argumentative, it would’ve been as clear as day which side he was supporting. None of the arguments specifically went for one side or the other. There was so much information for both sides of the debate that I ultimately went with informative.

For example: He said superstores were the best for finding new, “trendy” books, whereas the people in the independent bookstores were more knowledgeable overall.

What about the question about political arena? Why did the author use the quote. I think I put it was a central idea to indie book supporters philosophy? Wasn’t sure…

what did you guys say for the photography passage about the black and white question

I put a central idea to support the indie book philosophy.

I put something about the indie book supporters philosophy too, spacebound007!!

I don’t remember that photography one. I know some answers were that the moonlight scenes required the most equipment and that actors sometimes wore darkened lenses and that day to night scenes were used less than often.

Black and white one… wasn’t it something about the lighting being farther away?

that is what i said Nspire

I think it was argumentative because the little blurb on top showed the name of the article and although I don’t remember exactly what it was it definitely pointed to that answer

I’m positive the moonlight scenes use the most equipment.

How about the meaning of “I forgot the word but it starts with a d…” Part of the lighting passage.

I thought the answer was something to due with the viewers.

Thoughts?

Also, what is the curve usually like for reading? Definitely the section I did the worst on as I didn’t even come close to finishing. What might like -4/-5 be?

discordance? I think I put that it caused discomfort with the viewers when you use lighting right to left

discordant

adj.

 1. being at variance; disagreeing; incongruous.
 2. disagreeable to the ear; dissonant; harsh.

Yeah it made the viewers uncomfortable

Moonlight one was the most equipment, I agree.

The “d” one… wasn’t “disturbance,” but it was something like that. Barely can remember that one… not even sure what I put as an answer, haha.
